Geodon has some serious side effects so I would want to be sure about my diagnosis before taking it. On Sept 2, 2009, Pfizer pleaded guilty to criminal conduct for promoting off label uses of the drug Geodon. Geodon is FDA approved only to treat patients ages 18-65 diagnosed with schizophrenia or acute manic or mixed episodes associated with bipolar disorder. It is not suitable for the treatment of depression, bipolar maintenance, mood disorder, anxiety, aggression, dementia, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, autism, post traumatic stress disorder and for pediatric, adolescent and geriatric patients.
I haven't ever taken the medicine but being a science student and knowing a bit about medicines can surely help out regarding the same. Geodon is the market name for " Ziprasidone " ,an antipshycotic medicine used for the treatment of Schizophrenia as well as for other acute manias and bipolar disorders & has been approved by the Food & Drug Administration ( FDA ) of United States. Geodon in comparision to other antipyshotics helps in a way as the patients consuming it gain lesser weight as their lipid profile remains stable.
From all these facts Geodon can be recommended as a better & healthier alternative, however there are also some other things to be paid attention to... There is a risk taking Geodon as it can cause a dangerous change in the heart rhythm. It is normally recommended that patients having any sort of heart disease should strictly avoid taking Geodon. The recommended initial dose of Geodon is only 20 mg twice a day.
However, in some patients, daily dosage may be adjusted on the basis of their clinical status up to 80 mg ( twice a day ) - only if the doctor prescribes. Excess of Geodon may lead to dizziness, nausea and sleepiness. It may also cause allergic reactions which may result in taking other medicines. So it will be helpful if you consult your doctor again and clarify with any other irregularities or diseases and only then intake Geodon.
Regards.
I don't have personal experience about the drug. Here are some possible side effects of consuming Geodon. The following info is taken from their website, which I feel will be helpful to you.
---quote-- The most common side effects for patients taking geodon for schizophrenia include sleepiness, increased cough, and runny nose. In short-term schizophrenia clinical trials, 10% of geodon-treated patients experienced a weight gain of ≥7% of body weight vs. 4% for placebo. Serious side effects can occur with any antipsychotic medicine, including geodon.
Tell your doctor right away if you experience a high fever, stiff muscles, shaking, confusion, sweating, or increased heart rate or blood pressure. These can be signs of a rare condition called neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS). Also tell your doctor if you experience abnormal or uncontrollable facial or body movements.
These could be a sign of tardive dyskinesia (TD), which may become permanent. Medicines like geodon may raise blood sugar levels. There have been few reports of high blood sugar or diabetes in patients who take geodon. It is not known if geodon was the cause.
If you experience a rash, lightheadedness, or seizures while taking geodon, tell your doctor. Ask your doctor if geodon is right for you. ---end quote---- Regards.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
