I will be away for 2-3 months and need a live-in cat sitter for my two indoor cats. Should I charge the sitter rent? I would like someone to stay with my cats and not just drop by for a few minutes each day.

I'd also like this person to feed them, clean the litterbox, take out any trash, bring in the mail and water 1-2 plants. I have a nice, new 3 bedroom townhouse with parking. I was talking to my personal trainer about my plans and I said that I'd like to see if I can get someone to stay at my place and pay me rent or I may end up just having a friend stay and take care of them.

She told me how much she loves cats and that she is going to be between living situations while I am away and could do it. She was excited to learn about how nice the place sounded and it's proximity to the gym where she works. I don't doubt that she is reliable and responsible. My mortgage is on the high end ($1,700/month + utilities) and I'd like to recover some of the cost since I think we're both benefiting from this arrangement.

Is it appropriate for me to ask her to pay me to stay there? Asked by Basia03 35 months ago Similar questions: 2 3 months live in cat sitter indoor cats charge rent Pets > Cats.

Perhaps You will be helping her out by letting her stay there, but at the same time, she will be helping you as well. I don't think you should charge her what your house payment is. She is providing you with an invaluable service--staying at and taking care of your house and cats.

Granted it is a convenience to her, but also she will be pretty much stuck in town for 2-3 months while you're gone. I see nothing wrong with charging her a part of your rent, but if you didn't have her, most people would charge you to stay at your place or to take care of your cats. I also see nothing wrong with her paying the utilities for the time she's there since she will be the one using them..

2 I would not charge her rent. She will be taking care of your cats, plants, bringing in mail, etc. These may seem like simple things, but it is her time and she is taking care of your animals and place for you.To me the cost of someone taking good care of my cat and home - priceless.

CAK replied to post #2: 3 Also, the fact that someone will be there, is better than leaving the place empty! It's a bigger target for break-ins while it stands vacant.

4 That's true CAK. I used to "house-sit" when I was single for people going on long vacations. Gives the home the appearance of being "lived in" rather than empty.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
