I work 11pm-7am. My employer moved my job to second shift, which I can't work. Can they do this?

I was awarded a third shift position, and prior to accepting it, I requested, and was approved, to work 11pm-7am. My wife works second shift, and this gives her time to get home before I leave, so we don't need childcare. My employer said that my position is being moved to second shift.

I can't work second shift, as my wife already does. We work for the same company. They offered to move me to a different position, but it would be a serious demotion.

I hate to tell you this. You have no recourse. Your employer has the right to move you to any shift that they need you to work.

I know it doesn't seem fair, but you are working for them, and unless you have something in writing that say that is the only shift that you will be assigned to. They have the right to move you. Your only choice is to either quit or take the lower paying job, or higher a baby sitter..

Yes the employer can change the shift of his employee considering his business management, However frequent shift changeover will be undesirable.

None. They're not firing you, they're reassigning you. And to be honest, not to defend the employers, any job in this depression is a good thing.

Their attitude likely is that they're hurting too, and they probably already laid off some people, so they're trying to keep you while keeping the company intact, also. Usually, trying to have it both ways fails. I would take the second shift and figure out some way to have both spouses in the same place at the same time, but that's me.

You'll have to make your own decision on how to handle this legal change.

Unless you do, you're SOL. The employer can do pretty much anything he wants. Your options are deal with it or quit and find a different job.

Moved 2 FL from NJ, work 4 Bristol Myers Squibb as chef 4yrs,now in FL,I have felony charge back in 1994. All jobs say no.

I left my current employer for another job.

Yesterday they let me go @ my job because where I work wasn't making money. So they cut back 3 jobs including mine.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
