It's legal if the Saturday is in the same pay period as the day off (sometimes it has to be in the same week, but in this case it would work out in the same period). "In lieu" suggests that they want you to work eight hours on Saturday in exchange for eight hours off another day, in which case you don't "owe" them anything. You get eight hours of pay for five hours of work.
This is an even better deal than overtime, in which five hours overtime would net you 7.5 hours pay.So, even if the day off is not in the same period, you might want to go with it because you get an extra half-hour's pay.
