I would like to add an I Chat type program to my computer. Can you tell me in simple terms what I will need and the cost I would like to read stories to my small grandson in real time via the computer. When I did a search for I Chat, I became totally lost in technical information and didn't see any prices.
Can you help? Asked by Iam 55 months ago Similar questions: add Chat type program computer simple terms cost Computers > Hardware > Desktops & Laptops.

IChat might do the job, but if you're using Windows, you can just use the free MSN Messenger plus a video webcam. You can download Messenger for free here:get.live.com/messenger/overviewYou then have to make sure that your grandson has it installed, too. Someone wrote up very simple instructions that should help you with this:You both have to be using the latest version for it to work properly - but believe it or not, only one of you needs to have a webcam (its just more fun with two).
If you have a webcam and the other person doesn't you can still choose to be seen and heard and they type their responses back to you. Its a much better way to communicate. To set up windows live messenger, simply go to "Tool" and then to "audio and video setup" and follow the instructions. Its very simple to set up.
Three clicks can get you started immediately. Then message the other person and click the little camera next to your picture...you can choose to do a "webcam only" broadcast (ie no audio, so you type your responses) or a "video chat" which allows you to be seen and heard. answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=200... for the webcam, just make sure you get one with a built-in microphone.
Something like this should work just fine:Logitech QuickCam Pro 5000 WebCamList Price: $79.99Price: $59.99 & this item ships for FREE with Super Saver Shippinghttp://www.amazon.com/Logitech-QuickCam-Pro-5000-WebCam/dp/B000BDH2XY/It's a popular webcam and should be pretty easy to set up. Now I've used MSN Messenger before but not with a webcam, so most of the above is not from my personal experience, but it should be pretty simple to setup and I think it might be the best solution for you. If you do in fact have a Macintosh computer and prefer to use iChat, the basic steps aren't that different.
You'd simply install and use iChat instead of MSN Messenger. The software itself is also free. And there are more questions and answers about its use and setup here:http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=25748But either way, this shouldn't be too tough to get working and not very expensive at all.
I hope this helps! Sources: http://get.live.com/messenger/overview .

Skype is a very good, free, and easy way of communicating over the internet Skype is very easy to use, and set up, and it's completely free. The first thing you will need to do is download the program, since you started talking about iChat I assume you have a Mac so that first link I gave you was for the Mac download area for Skype, however if you have a Windows computer you can go here (skype.com/intl/en/download/skype/windows/), once you've downloaded the program simply install it. Then make sure anyone you want to talk to (your grandchildren in this case) have to program installed on their computers as well.
For Voice chat you will need to have a microphone, If you are using a mac then you most likely already have one built into your computer, if not however I highly recommend the Logitech Quick Cam (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/webcam_communications/webcams/devices/243&cl=us,en)It has both a camera and a microphone, you'd probably be able to find it at any Future shop or Best Buy, or other electronic store with a computer section. Although it is a bit pricey I would recommend it since the quality is so much better compared to the lower quality $40 cameras. So after you have installed Skype and made sure your grandchildren have it on their computer, you both need to make your own skype accounts, and then from there Skype will walk you through the rest of the process, basically it just tells you how to find the person you're looking for, and then call them although it is extremely straight forward.
Hope that helped. Sources: http://www.skype.com/intl/en/download/skype/macosx/ .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
