The owner of the equipment may do what they wish with it. If you borrow/use that equipment then, you do so under their rules.... and if you leave information on it, then it can be recovered.. especially by professionals. That is fine also... Did you do anything silly or use it for anything that was against the company rules?
(yes you may use it for personal use, but not illegal or inappropriate - in YOUR opinion not theirs) The concerns are, that they are on a fishing excercise... they have nothing hard on you. But are trying to get you to trip yourself up... The questions YOU need to be asking them are - What is the problem is there? - "If you feel I have violated some company policy, please be clear what it is, and then we can discuss, but unless there is something, then I see no reason for these questions" - Be very clear with them, to make them make a statement what the problem is.
Say nothing except to ask for them to make an accusation or to let you return to work. This is clearly some form of disciplinary forum... so.. DO take a witness with you (you are entitled) no matter what they say you do NOT need to say anything.. stay calm, and do not be provoked. Yes, you may feel violated.. but be more worried why they needed or wanted to search the disk to 'find' stuff anyway.
You really can't do nothing about it because it's the companies computer, but you can sue for harrasment If you'd like.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
