Jesus told those of us who are His to yield to man's law where it doesn't conflict with God's law. Confessing to the police is part of what you need to do with that understanding. Repentance is more than confession.
It's a change of heart, of attitude and action. The repentant individual literally changes how he or she does things in his life. It should be noted that repentance and asking for and receiving God's forgiveness doesn't necessarily mean the removal of the consequences of wrong actions.
Some have indeed done what you shared in your example and have been imprisoned or even faced the death penalty. It's literally up to God as to the physical outcome. This fits well with your recent questions about not fearing those that can destroy the body but can destroy the soul.
Those of us who are God's can indeed have peace knowing we have chosen to do and be right by Him regardless of the consequences. Excellent question. Thanks for asking it.
People who repent must pay the consequences for their actions even if they repent. You still have a conscience and no matter how many years may go by, it has been proven time and time again that you will pay the consequences. You cannot get away with murder, even if your always looking over your shoulder for a policeman because the authorities found out.
The evildoer next to Jesus on the torture stake became repentant, but he still paid the consequences with his life. In fact one evildoer said to to the other: "Do you not fear God at all, now that you are in the same judgment? And we, indeed, rightly so, for we are receiving in full what we deserve for things we did; but this man did nothing out of the way."
Luke 23:40 and 41 That evildoer has the hope of the resurrection because Jesus said that he would remember him. Any who have come to repentance before being executed have the hope of being there on resurrection day. John 5:28 and 29 Even those, who others believe will burn in hell (not a Bible teaching), have the hope of being resurrected.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
