If I get a small pool at home (2000 gallon) do I need to use chemicals or can I just change the water somewhat often?

For the sake of conservation... I would suggest having a small pool filter/pump. The frequent draining and refilling could put a strain on either your water bill or your well pump...plus, the water will often be cold. Maintaining the pool water really isn't too complicated.

Here's what you'll need: Chlorine PH Plus Algaeside A pool test kit or pool test strips. Just testing the water each day with a test strip will indicate if your PH is correct. That's the most important thing to keep in balance.

Rain will lower the PH. Many people think that chlorine will make eyes sting...not so. It's all in keeping the PH in balance.

For a 2000 gallon pool, you could get a very small and inexpensive cartridge filter (similar to those used for hot tubs)...I used the cartridge filter for a 5000 gallon pool and the water sparkled. The water is skimmed into a plastic basket, to catch leaves, it's pumped through a pleated filter cartridge and returned to the pool. Easy to maintain...just remove cartridge and hose it off.

To empty the pool as often as you need to to keep it clean Would cost you a lot in water bills as well as not being environmentally friendly. Not draining it often enough could create an even bigger health hazard than the chemicals.

Would suggest yes I would suggest that you use chlorine chemicals and get a testing kit. Even changing the water often, there will still be bacteria that could cause health issues.
