If I have a music cd and only like 3 or four songs, is it legal to rip those songs to my pc and burn to another cd?

I think "fair use" covers this use. But the RIAA would rob you if they ever found out. You ought to be safe.

ALL boom boxes came with duel cassettes to copy cassettes, we thought nothing of copying a cassette and giving them to friends, I never ever heard of anyone getting in trouble for that. Now these days with CD's even copying for private use can get you in trouble.

With several different opinions I wonder if contacting Windows Media Player would give me a difinitive answer, Thanks for your reply popmusic 6 months ago .

Sorry we aren't lawyers, just regular people like you.

Didn't mean anything wrong just trying to get the best answer so that others like myself who don't know will be able to proceed without worrying about doing something illegal, But Thanks again for your imput and response. Popmusic 6 months ago .

You're welcome, personally I think the law stinks, I feel that if a person has already bought the CD they should have the right to copy it for personal use. Like 1 copy at home and another copy for use in their car.

Gary's right. Also, First Sale Doctrine would loosely apply. And, depending upon whether or not some of the songs fall within the Public Domain (expired copyright), that would also apply. As long as you don't sell them or give them away, you're allowed to do that according to the RIAA.

I do it all the time to create CD's to play in the car. However, once you give a copy away, make a second copy to give to someone, or even worse, sell - then you've broken the law.So, you shouldn't lie awake at night worry about whether you're breaking the law or not and enjoy your music! Technically, if you make a mixed CD featuring one or more artists, the RIAA doesn't look too fondly upon it, but, since you're doing it for personal use - no harm done.

Like I said, enjoy the tunes and rock on!

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
