If Iran needed nuclear power, then why didn't obama help them to convert to wind and solar energy instead?

There are so many disadvantages it is hard to know where to start. With the exception of hydro and Geothermal, they are uncontrollable, they cannot alter load to suit demand and so screw up grid systems that need perfect control of voltage frequency and power factor. They are very less energy dense, meaning you need hundreds of sq miles covered to equal one conventional power station.

They are expensive to build and maintain, and so costly that they could not stay in business without big subsidies. You never know in advance how much power they will supply, making forward planning a nightmare. Wind is noisy and ugly and kills birds (eagles especially) and bats Thermal solar frys birds in midair.

They need support from conventional (diesel or gas) generators for when the wind is not blowing or the sun not shining.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
