If money were no object, and you had the choice between adding on to your home or remodeling it, what would you do?

And no, adding on and remodeling aren't the same thing. In this case I mean you could either update a room, or rooms you already have, (not being able to literally add any square footage), or add another room to your present home and gaining more square footage. Throwing up your hands and buying a new house with your new found wealth isn't an option --- lol!

Both! .. you said money was no object, right? Ok ok ok... my first choice would be to remodel.

I'd really love to turn our garage into a big rec room. We have a 2 car garage that has sheetrock up. We have an air hockey table and foosball table down there with a bunch of junk on it.

I hate it. I want to turn that into a rec room. We would also purchase a pool table to have down there as well along with some funky decorations to put on the walls. It would be great to have a big room like that and have friends over or when our kids have their friends over - they can go crazy down there.

Now my second choice would be to add on to the house. Since we just took up the garage, we'll need to extend the house to add another one to park our cars in. And while we're at it, I'd love to add on a sunroom in the back of the house.

Now that I think of it, it would be great to tear down the deck and re-do it. It's old and creaky and the paint is peeling. **big sigh** This would be a dream come true to actually do!

Add on, for sure! Oh, what I wouldn’t do for more room here! I would definitely go that route.

We’ve already done this once, adding on a family room in the back of our house, and it was the best investment in our house we could have made. I can’t imagine how we lived in the area we previously had now! Of course, if money is no object, you will also have to throw in that property is no object, too--we’ve got neighbors that might not appreciate us getting any closer to the property lines!

Unless we build UP--add a second floor above us, which would also work. And please take care of all the permits and zoning things for us, too, will you? I would add a large master bedroom, a luxury bath, and an enormous studio/office/warehouse for my work!

I’m adding an entire floor, so it doesn’t have to be just one room, does it? This second floor with all I want in it, though, might end up crushing the downstairs due to it’s weight! So many be should go back to the first floor?

But it’s definitely not enough to just remodel what we have--we need more space for our STUFF! I can't imbed this video, but it's a great one! youtube.com/watch?v=MvgN5gCuLac (It's George Carlin talking about our "stuff") .

We are in the process of doing that very thing. Of course in our case money is an object. We are adding on to the house because we were simply out of room.

We live in an old house that has NO closets so we are expanding one bedroom and adding a huge closet. We are also expanding the laundry room and adding another huge closet there. The bathroom is expanding to allow for a huge walk in shower but no closet there.

The biggest thing we were out of room for was books so the library is going t about double in size. We are doing a bit of remodeling also but that is stuff that we are doing ourselves. The living room had an old carpet and we have taken that up to reveal a wonderful old hardwood floor and we are painting the living room a dark red.So I guess that my answer to your question is that we would add on unless we had too much space already and then we would just remodel but can you ever have too much space?

Definitely remodel. If money were no object...don't need more room (sq. Ft.) but do need better usage of sq. Ft.

; but to be able to put in rain sensor skylights, knock out a bedroom closet and make the bathroom larger, put a chair lift in to get upstairs, landscape so the freak behind us can't see in...oh you've got me dreaming now. Definitely remodel. Croknit's Recommendations Punch!

Both. If "money were no object" I'd both remodel it and add on a room! That way, you have more space, as well as a newly-designed interior throughout!

If , for some reason, you can only do one or the other, it would depend upon whether you feel you need the additional space or not. If you fell you need the additional space, then build an add-on. If you don't, remodel..
