If one child has a peanut allergy, isn't it right for all the other kids in school not to have peanut products?

Children go to school to learn. 6 hours without eating peanut butter is not punishing the kids who aren't allergic. But that one child who is allergic can feel safe for the 6 hours they are away from home and they have 6 hours to be around their friends and feel "normal" without the fear of dying.

And NO these "kids" are not exposed to nut products outside of school. You should feel blessed to not have these severe allergies. Nuts are in almost everything and everywhere.

You are proof of that! .

I have had a severe peanut allergy my entire life and I can tell you from experience that even smelling them can make you sick. Peanut allergies are very serious. If a child is in a classroom where he/she can't leave and they are serving peanut products, it will affect them.

There are thousands of alternate snacks. I definately support any parent who requests certain products not be included for school snacks. It's not worth the child's life.

And yes, it is that serious.

I also thought like you do until I had a grandson that has severe peanut allergies. He is four years old and in nursery school. In September he will be going into kindergarten.

If he even taste peanut butter his throat swells up, he can't breath and has to be given an injection immediately. The school nurse has an eppi-pen (medication injection) in her office for him. Every one in the family always has one with them at all times.

As a three year old he was taught to ask anyone who offered him anything to eat, "Does it have peanuts in it". Do you know how difficult that is for a small child to always remember to ask that? Many things today have peanuts in the ingredients and you would not even know it.

A new Chocolate candy store opened by me and I wanted to get some candy for him for Easter. I mentioned to the person who made the fresh candy I need only candy without peanuts since my grandson is allergic. They told me sorry but I can't buy anything in the store since the candy machine always has traces of peanuts in it even if the candy does not even mention peanuts in it.

In other words this can be very serious to a small child. With every one today being so politically correct I think this one small item can "pass" for the safety of young children. My grandson along with other small children could risk being rushed to a hospital unable to breath.

BTW you would be surprised how many children today have peanut allergies. Many times it is a lot more than just one kid in a class room.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
