What a coinkydink, Lindsay, I'm bored mindless myself (and I really ought to be cleaning the apartment, which I dread), so sure, let's discuss. 1: Who is your favorite folk musician? Tough one.
When I was a wee little kid (like 3-6) I liked Pete Seeger. When I was a teen, I went through a Bob Dylan phase, but only his first four albums are really "folk", the rest are rock. Peter Paul and Mary were another favoorite when I was a kiddie.
These days, I guess I'll mention: Roscoe Holcomb, populist of Appalachian folk music of the Depression era and older. He was "rediscovered" in the 60's. Banjo player, lonesome hillbilly voice, very expressive.
Sends tingles up my spine. I also like Doc Watson (who could play folk or bluegrass), John Fahey (acoustic guitarist -no vocals- played a lot of folk and folk-blues standards, breathtakingly beautiful and evocative, check him out). In the 80's, in New York, there was a revival group in the Kingston Trio/Peter Paul and Mary "pop folk" tradition called the Washington Squares.
Their albums are hard to find; the leader died young. Look for their debut. In the 90's, I was tempted to call Ani DiFranco a "folk" singer.
She was more legitimate than the daughter-of-a-post-60's-hippie Jewel. DiFranco certainly isn't a protest singer, and really doesn't have much in common with folk. But something about selling her records from the back of a VW bus while barnstorming the country is in the right tradition.
2: If you were trapped on an island with a collection of every album made, what ones would you burn for fire first? I could melt them into a bridge from Hawaii to San Francisco. Where to begin?
I'll start with any Chicago album that begins with the letter "X", add some Phil Collins as kindling, and dump any American Idol contestant on top. 3: Do you have any pets named after a musician? I had a betta fish named Jerry, after Garcia, but he was half named for Gerry Ford (who died that week) too.
BQ: Dedicate a song to a fellow Y! A member Sending "Help, I'm a Rock!" out to...well, you know who you are... BQ2: What song best describes your mood right now "Inertia Creeps" by Massive Attack BQ3: How are you this evening?
1. Does folk metal count? My favorite band is Mägo de Oz.
They also play a few traditional folk songs. 2. The ones that only contain music with no interest or enjoyment put into it.
3.No, but if I had a rottweiler I would probably name him Lemmy. =D. I don't know.
The name just seems to fit the dog BQ2: I'll come back to this one. BQ3: Pretty bored, but overall I feel well. Yes.
Happy birthday to James Dean.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
