Say you believed that man originally arose from a particular Volcanoe crater in Austrailia but it was proven that a large metorite caused that crater 3000 yearas after many appeared on the land and it because clearly apparent to you that what you had followed as your religion was false. Would you turn a blind eye to the facts and choose to keep following... would you live in denial... or would you move on to find the true religion? Your question is circular, but I understand your meaning. If something happened to cause me not to believe in my religion, then I would no longer believe in my religion. I think the point you are trying to make is that something might happen to shake a person's faith.
How big would it have to be to cause them to abandon their faith completely? Most religions are based on truths that cannot be proven or disproven with science. There are details that conflict with science.
The creation of the universe is the most common one. Different religions have different stories about the creation of everything, but none of them correspond to the big bang theory. The creation of the universe is just a detail of religion, and not a crucial underpinning.
Sects do die off that are based on provable or disprovable facts. Those that set dates for the destruction of the world, or the coming of Christ have dwindled as those dates pass without the predicted action. The suicide cults and the preachers that are found to be frauds.
I hope I could evaluate challenges to my faith. I am not an expert in religious matters, and it is possible I have not completely understood every verse in the Bible. But I think I have the basic tenants down.
I hope this helps.
Science can be wrong to. I don't think you can prove things from a long time ago so well. God is not religion, so even if religion is mademad rules, I believe in God.
He answers my prayers daily.
It depends on what one means as a basis "tenet" of the religion. As a practicing scientist and Christian, nothing ... fundamental in my religion has been disproved. I believe that the basic teachings in Judeo-Christianity are quite sound as they apply to the revelations about who God is, what our relation should be to and what our behavior (to self, other people and God) ought to be like.
If I were a "literalist" regarding 6-24 hour days of creation, etc. (you know, those things that the skeptics, some extreme atheists, and just plain "mean" people throw out at believers), I would have a problem with justifying details of my faith. Since I happen to be in the more traditional Catholic-Orthodox-Anglican "camp", I have no problems or conflicts with my faith whatsoever. Regarding those good Christian and other religious folks who are "literalists" or "fundamentalists", they have my total support, provided that they refrain from condemning my Christian faith.
And I do respect the right of people to adhere to agnosticism and atheism, if that is their honest, free choice. In the end TRUTH will be victorious, and adherence to (or faith in) IT will set you free....Veritas Vinci!.
I'd want to see the data People can interpret data various ways, and that is the important thing. Science often ignores anomalous data (information which disagrees with the prevailing theory). In this sense, believing in science is just the same as believing in a religion.
Men always believe in SOMETHING, so for me, personally, it is a matter of following the data and making up my own mind, apart from what I am told is 'true' or what to think. Science has been wrong on so many 'proofs' that we need to be very, very careful. By the way, there are no volcanoes in Australia. It is primarily a large craton.
Well people are always trying to prove god isnt real people say they found proof that christ didn't walk on water he was floating on ice but I still believe that he walked on water no matter what any one says I would rather believe it and it not be true than not believe it and it be true theres nothing to lose by believing but there is alot to lose if you don't .

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
