Your comparisons and analogies are not valid. Richard Nixon and GWB targeted then used the IRS to actively harass liberal dissidents. In the current situation, the IRS independently scrutinized applications certain groups filed with the IRS.
Had they never filed for tax exempt status, the IRS would otherwise not even know these groups exist. The IRS neither "targeted" nor "harassed" these groups, they simply subjected suspicious applicants to scrutiny in routine processing of their applications, so it is incorrect to describe the current situation as abuse and furthermore incorrect to assert both "left" and "right" commit equal abuses with the IRS. It's not comparable... and they don't both do it.
The current situation is in fact NOT ironic given that the asymmetry of comparison precludes irony in the first place but having dispensed with the technicalities, were the current situation >hypothetically< ironic, no, teabaggers nevertheless do not have the intelligence, wisdom or wit to comprehend such subtleties as irony as well as sarcasm, humor or complexity.
Tea partiers object to all abuses of power. The Tea Party simply didn't exist back in earlier eras. And notice that when such abuses are aired, they stop, for at least a time.
Also, don't think the Tea Party is not noticing the NSA situation. If we could be certain the NSA was free from political influences, and that the information gathered would remain locked away or destroyed when not needed, it would be one thing. But given the IRS situation, I don't think too many people, other than brain dead congressmen.
Have confidence that all that information will not be used for political motives.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
