No they do not have a legitimate excuse. They can come up with lots of excuses but it is still against the law to be here without US Government permission. Having said that understand that if they are caught crossing it is a class B misdemeanor and it a violation of the Federal Criminal code.
If they are not caught then it becomes "Unlawful Presence" and is a violation of Federal CIVIL code and it is not criminal. (Unless your in AZ then they criminalized "Unlawful Presence" They have reasons for coming but it does not justify it nor does it make it a legitimate excuse. I understand their reasons but I don't agree that they come over undocumented.
I understand when NAFTA passed we sold corn for less than they could farm it so over one million farmers in Mexico went out of business and then illegal immigration tripled. Correlation? I understand that wages in many towns in Mexico, Central and South American are around $3 per day so they come here and at min wage make 20 times what they were making back home.
They are willing to take the risk. The complications come when they have babies that are issued birth certificates and social security cards and now do you separate families and deport the parents? Maybe we should, maybe we should not.
Many countries like Guatemala charge US Citizens to live there and the fine in many cases is more than the monthly wages of the parents. Guatemala Gov charges $34 per month for every US Citizen that is there over 90 days. No legitimate excuses yet they still come and will continue coming until we stop paying them to come.
We need to take down the help wanted sign that is pointed at Mexico. 40% of our border is Protected Federal lands that ICE agents can't even patrol. What is with that?
We need to turn off the tap before we can mop up the floor.
Legitimacy is in the eye of the beholder. While most US citizens don't find their reasons sufficient, they are coming from cultures that encourage illegal immigration and make heroes of those that do it. When you have been taught from birth that you live in poverty because of US policy and that Americans live well off of your suffering, you feel justified in coming here and taking whatever we're willing to give you.
Which in some states is quite a lot.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
