I hope the people of Lybia select their own leader. What do we know? The USA started out with the idea tht other countries pick etheir leaders and we have to work with the person they select.
I have to remember they selected Gaddafi also! Now there are other factions far more fanatical than he is, or was. Usmc 8 months ago .
Not what I call "selected by the people. "Wikipedia says:"On 1 September 1969, a small group of military officers led by the 27 year old army officer Muammar Gaddafi staged a coup d'état against King Idris, launching the Libyan Revolution.42 Gaddafi has since then been referred to as the "Brother Leader and Guide of the Revolution" in government statements and the official Libyan press. "I guess some may say that if the acquiesce then they agree.93present.
Islamic Brotherhood (they're already doing so well in Egypt that they "must" be reliable! ) .
You may well be right, and what a bloodbath that will be. Usmc 8 months ago .
Surely, you jest. I of course am speaking of a Libyan government, but you knew that. Usmc 8 months ago .
Yes, but since Newt has had so much interest in Libya, I was making a tongue in cheek suggestion. I completely agree with one of the other posters - WE shouldn't be determining the next leader there, the Libyans should.
The Muslim Brotherhood is just waiting in the wings. Will we support them? Who knows.
Up is down and left is right today.
I tend to agree with you, and I do not have good feelings about the outcome. Thanks! Usmc 8 months ago .
Well first off define "We". The Lybian revolutionary forces, NATO, France, UK or the USA? I see the USA putting in a lot of fire power but no troops (aside from CIA operatives training the revolution forces).
Hopefully the people of Lybia will choose their own leader(s). But that is not going to be an easy task. Lybia's social structure is largely tribal with 140 or something different tribes and only 3 or 4 major tribes and amongst those major tribes there are some alliances.
Also, its not like all of Lybia is just a desert. Think about how different things are in the USA from region to region or state to state. They would need to divide up their country by those regions and make sure everyone was happy.
Also, keep in mind that one of the reasons this started was a lack of jobs (and food). When this IS over where are all of these people going to work? And will there be enough infrastructure in place to give them all work and supply the food they need at an affordable price?
Who ever wins has got a LOT of responsibilities when this is over. I'm not sure I would want to jump in right away to support anyone unless it was humanitarian and "We" could guarantee that humanitarian aid was getting to the people who need it.
The we, was which faction of the lybian rebels.....they think they will have all of that oil money to divide and live like Hollywood stars. Each of your statements prove they do not have anyone thinking other than about themselves...what started as a college age uprising has become a religious war and we (meaning our government) are so stupid we just ran right in to get his holiness's name in the headlines. I personally do not care what they do, as my grandmother use to say it will all come out in the wash.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
