Well, I think it would certainly not be hard to “spend†the 1 million dollars in a single day. I could figure out various ways in which to rid myself off the amount of money in less than 24 hours, however, that would be merely spending the money on whatever came to mind. I think I would take care of necessities first and pay off any existing debt, purchase a larger home, ensure better transportation means, and likely offer family members some financial help as well (that can be paid within a day).
I like the ideas some of the members have stated already, such as purchasing gold or diamonds in the worth of the money. Those are pretty smart approaches (that I would not have come up with myself, but would certainly use now that I am aware of them, if I ever inherited or won that much money and had to spend it) and I would likely prefer these options to having to blow all the money in a day just to have “spent†it. I would truly regret having had the opportunity to be the owner of such a grand sum of money at one time without having been able to save at least some portion of it for future needs, such as my children’s college education, or to put some money away for retirement (or to invest).

I would buy solid 99.99% pure gold bars with the money. This will be the best and the most intelligent way to spend the money and a great investment at the same time which will give me good returns in future. By the way, have you by chance won a lottery of 1 million dollar and want to know how to spend it as fast as possible, so that nobody else tries to get his hands on that?
LOL Hope you find my way of spending it most interesting. Thanks.
Great minds think alike, it seems we are all finding ways to get the best bang for our bucks and build lasting income. I would buy several homes, rent some out, and sell the others. The property could have investment value, and the rental could create a stream of income.
If I hire a property manager I could even create a job. Who knows if things go well enough perhaps I could eventually create a large business.
I would buy houses and acreage for myself and my grown children. We all would have to have new vehicles of course. Then I would put up trust funds for my grandchildren.
After that I would fund my husband's business he wants to start flipping houses. I think when the economy turns it could be very profitable.
After reading only the question I would say buy 1mil in diamonds and I see by Owls answer that I am not the only one to think that way, just a different commodity. But your question says or you will not get the rest of the inheritence. So now the question is how much is the rest?
If I was getting another 50mil I would send money to charity, help my family and friends. Most people don't realize how quick you can go through a million, it's not what it used to be. If the rest was just another million stick with the commodities.
Since it's a big money here in the Philippines, I'd buy my dream house and lot, resort, gadgets, dream cars, farm lots, and franchise business. And I'll hold a party!
Spending that purely on services could be difficult, especially services you have to consume yourself. However, I've heard of certain celebrities who will actually command $1 million for an appearance. All you need to do is host a party with them in attendance and you're done!
I'd buy stock! Or gold! Or diamonds!
Or an oil well! Or a business! Or a rare and valuable painting!
There are lots of things you can buy that have pretty good resale value.
By My dream home and property.. and well pay the rest to the National Debt, after helping my family members that deserve it.. I would not have time in 24 hrs to decide which friends to help.. So I figure paying off part of the National or Public Debt.. Would in a way help everyone..
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
