Usually the things you detailed won't shrink--check the label though If the label on the item specifically tells you to NOT wash the item in hot water, I would heed the advice. I've usually found that most "normal" items can hold up in hot water, but I've had sweaters as well as cheaply made T shirts shrink an unacceptable amount...depends on the item in question and what it's made out of. In my experience...YUP! All I can tell you is that any time I mistakenly wash anything in hot water ... it comes out a couple sizes smaller! I will say, though, that I sometimes wash my towels in hot and really haven't had a problem.
Sometimes washing it in warm water is enough to shrink something, but washing it in hot water really multiplies the chances of shrinkage. So - my advice - keep that cold water button turned on! .
