If you root a mytouch 3g, is it still locked to the network it came from? and can I root it while its in the limited state that it is in?

Getting root on an Android phone and carrier unlocking a device are different. Once a phone is carrier unlocked it stays that way no matter what you do to the OS. However if you root a phone, it is possible to loose root on it if you update the OS.

Getting root on a phone will not allow you to use a different carriers SIM if it is still carrier locked.
