If you saw a policeman/policemen committing a brutal act on a citizen would you intervene or just leave the police to get on with their job?

I don't know if I would get involved directly with stopping the officer's abuse but I would try and help somehow, somewhere to bring that abuse to the attention of the proper authorities. Being a police officer doesn't mean being above the law. It is up to every citizen to make sure they do their jobs accordingly.

Sadly too often we are left with little we can physically do to help in a case like this since we would be risking arrest for interfering. We have seen a number of times over the years how everyday citizens have stepped in and helped stop an officer of the law from abusing the very laws they are suppose to uphold. There are a number of things we could do.1.

Video tape what is happening so to present it to an officer of the court (lawyer, judge, etc) 2. Offer to be a defense witness 3. Call police department and report officer to his/her superiors.

I believe I would just call another police force to make them stop. So yes I would intervene.

I wouldn't get physically involved, but I would call the cops on the cops and as soon as I got off the phone with 911, I'd video as much of the beating as possible to offer as proof. I would stick around until the cops I called showed up and with any luck they would show before the other officers sped off with the alleged offender, now turned victim.

The answer, for me, depends on what country I am in. In some countries where civil liberties are at the top of the list there may be something you can do but in other countries it may endanger your own "health" to intervene. When in Rome do as the Romans do.

I suppose this is erring on the side of self preservation. Just remember that different civilisations / cultures have different ideas on what is right and wrong. If you get involved at least think of the consequences first.

First of all, I would just like to correct you on your policeman/policemen comment. It's police officer/officers. Women can be police officers too you know.To answer your question, if I saw police officers "kicking a man whilst he is down" then I would ABSOLUTELY step in and do my best to stop it.

I would also film what was happening if I had my phone on me and I would inform the officers that I was doing so. They could then tell me that it's illegal to film a police officer. I would in turn tell them that it's illegal to cause Grievous Bodily Harm to someone who isn't fighting back.

It would depend on which country you are talking about but I would not physically get involved for fear of the police killing me ( not an exaggeration ). I would take and gather as much evidence as I could and then try to do something with it. I don't know, its a hard one.In the US I wouldn't get involved - not after watching 57min of police brutality.

Well, if you get involved then you are going to face charges of interfering with a police officer in the line of duty. But you sure don't want to stand by and watch them kill the guy! This is really a tough question.

Being a thin, weak person, there probably isn't much that I could actually do, physically, to stop the assault. But I would remember what I saw so I could act as a witness. Even better, get a video with a cell phone.

Then I'd sell the video to the highest bidder and use the money to pay the victim's expenses until he got the lawsuit settlement.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
