If you want to become a wedding photographer, how do you get wedding experience?

You first build up your general photography skills and when you know your equipment and the basics you approach established wedding snappers and ask if you can assist them.

I've heard from professional photographers who give lessons that many times a couple getting married don't mind if a "student" tags along with the photographer who also will be learning from the experience. You will also need to build a portfolio. Have you taken any photography classes?

Usually you can sign up for classes through Groupon which gets you a big discount on the class, when run by pro photographers they can help you get into the industry. Also wedding fashion shows or womens events would be a good place to photograph wedding wear that you might be able to use to build your portfolio. What about going to a local wedding shop and photograph their model or a friend in their dresses that the shop can use?

Hope this helps!
