I agree with Cherise that whatever is mutually agreeable is fine. For a teenager (I'm guessing she is? ), getting a trip might be adequate compensation.
Were it me, I would turn that offer down flat-out, since at the end of the trip, she doesn't have a single cent in her pocket, and as an adult, that wouldn't be worth it to me. I'm assuming that if she's brought along, even if the parents will be around, she is expected to do work. To me, that would feel like being on call 24 hours a day for no money.
The trade-off of maybe getting to do fun things with the family wouldn't be worth it to me, since I need to earn something in order to live. A week of helping out with a kid is a lot (especially a special needs kid). If it were me, I would be offering the babysitter a few hundred dollars on top of paying for her expenses on the trip.
She's probably going to come home exhausted, and she could probably earn money babysitting were she not going, so that would seem fair.
She should also be given a flat rate pay as she will be expected to take care of a special needs child. I don't think a babysitter will want to do what a family would do on a vacation and would probably want more of the night life. She will also be attached to where the family wants to be so it is work.
Families take maids to Europe and the maid still gets paid.
That is up to them to negotiate with the babysitter. If they feel that the trip itself is adequate compensation, then they ought to make that their job offer: "OK, in exchange for watching Timmy all week, we are offering to pay for your trip and for all the activities you will be doing with us on our trip. Are you interested?"
They need to make it clear that this is what they are offering. If these terms are not acceptable to the babysitter, then it is up to her to make a counter offer: "Well, the trip sounds nice, but if I stayed home then I could babysit for the Jones all week, and make $250, so I guess I will stay home. I need the money more than I need the trip.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
