I've been earning a little money online as a guide at another answers service, I also have a website that makes some money from online ads and affiliate commissions. Not a lot, but it paid for Christmas this year.
I'm unemployed too and also quit my job, which made me ineligible for Unemployment Income. (Yes, I tried, just in case. ) So I'm doing odd jobs for busy friends with small businesses (light bookkeeping & data entry; small business administrivia stuff, research, website updates, newsletters updates) and walking dogs.
I've been on Craigslist trolling for gigs but apparently there's a lot of competition. :) Most importantly, I have cut my expenses to the bare minimum and told all my friends, which means that anytime I go out (necessary to keep morale up), they often buy me a drink or lunch. I try to apply for a few jobs a week, to keep possibilities afloat.
Come January I'm going to email blast my whole network with my resume and see where connections will get me. That's how I got my last job, which lasted 3.5 yrs. Hang in there redbeard.
You'll be OK.
You can search for online employment by visiting numerous work-at-home forums where employment opportunities are routinely discussed. In addition, you can also sell unused items online, through auctions or free posting sites. If you live in an area where you have a few acres of land, you can consider cutting and selling firewood to those around you.
Take advantage of food sales when you can. Buy sale items in bulk when possible. You will save money, and you will have food in the cupboards even when you're running low on funds.
Decrease the temperature in your house by a few degrees during the day, and even lower once everyone goes to bed. Winterize your home if you notice any drafts, as letting warm air out only increases your heating bill during the winter months. Unplug everything not being used overnight.
Only plug something up when you use it. Even the small amount of electricity you save by doing this will add up over a period of time. Consider ways you can keep the family entertained without going out.
Board games, microwave popcorn, older movies on DVD that you haven't seen for a while can all be fun and inexpensive ways to enjoy yourselves. Pinching every little penny is important when you're unemployed at this time of year, especially with the economy in such a sad shape. Even when you're only looking online, keep a positive attitude.
I hope things start looking up for you soon!
I do not work outside the home but I do work from home. I do surveys and affiliate programs and they pay well if you apply yourself. I do sales and internet marketing.
When I was jobless, I posted local ads fixing PCs for chump change and used my musical talents to play gigs with local bands. I was making around $500 a week doing these things. If you have a talent, you can surely find ways to make it pay.
I think secondary income hobbies (ie: computer repair) would be a great option for income while you're job hunting. Learn a skill and take it to the public - I'm not saying start your own business, just simply learn something that friends and family, even strangers, might desire and go forward with it until you can find another job. I have many friends who do carpentry on the side of their day jobs, and I'm sure that if they lost their jobs they would be able to make a decent income until another job comes around.
Well you could do what you are doing here at mahalo answers or better still you could apply to be a mahalo PTG at the mahalo greenhouse. Alternatively you could come up with a clever ,innovative idea look for venture capital in the form angel investments and voila you will never look for a job ever again. I hope those tips were worthwhile.
File for Unemployment. Seriously , Swallow your pride, especially if you have a good record of paying into social security, your local Unemployment branch will help you file, help you find jobs, even try placing with temp agencies that pay anywhere between 10-50 bucks an hour. And now that the Executive branch has lengthened UI benefits to 22 weeks, now is the best time to do it.
I don't recommend it however if you haven't paid much into social security like if your working for a non-profit, private, or overseas corp. Sometimes people have no other recourse . Where I live unemployment is the highest in the country .
And there are safeguards protecting people and helping them get threw this dreadful winter. Kind Regards ~x EDIT: Didn't see your part about UI Benefits not being a option until just now. , Well I feel for ya , But check with your local office , I think as long as you have atleast 6 - 8 weeks or more of prior employment they will still help you.As your benefits might be smaller , I would still give it a shot , You really have nothing to loose .
Unless you have a disability and planning to file for TDI or full DI, allot of local agencies will sympathize with your individual situation. EDIT II & EDIT III: 2 Other things . A *TON* of pharmaceutical companies are paying people to enroll in sleep studies testing medicines like Ambien CR (zolpidem) THIS HAS GOT TO BE THE EASIEST MONEY I've ever made.
The drugs are free , they compensate you for time and travel and some study sites even compensate for gas money. 2 - Something I haven't touched in my inbox yet but.... This guy __ Thank you, Michael Neilsen Quality Surveys Inc.6305 Green Circle Drive Minnetonka, MN 55341 __ Runs the mystery shopper program which like ohxsnap said above can pay anywhere from 400-700$ a week! You have to be careful though, allot of places like this are phoney baloney, but check your local supermarkets for legit affiliations .
If you aren't getting unemployment benefits already CHECK INTO IT! It is your money, and no shame in getting on unemployment and use their resources to land your next job. If unemployment isn't enough, possibly selling things on ebay?
Do you have a pair of antique roller skates from 1964? Believe it or not there is someone out there who is looking for those! I would recommend looking into discount options for your health care, if you are not able to pay your bills- contact your creditors IMMEDIATELY this will save you the awful follow up calls from creditors, they want their money and they will work with you!
You can set up payment plans with utility companies, lower your cable options ( premier channels ect), remove any extra's from your monthly expenses.
Now that is a really, really good question. Convenience Stores, Banks, Shopping Malls, they are all good targets for A job.
Earn money online. It's not necessarily a job, but you can earn quite a bit by taking surveys, and clicking ads. :) I earned $400 this week by doing this.
:).
Everyone have their own tallents by birth and they have experiences in their lives.. so I too have them both. I knwo the way for me. And there are loads of easy ways to earn money leaglly.
Like online surveys. So no worries.
I work only online I do PTC sites, GPT sites, and I do freelance writing I can share with you if you would like. Another idea is to make a business out of what you know, example would be if you like to dress up start a buisness doing little kid parties so you can make some cash and have fun. Let me know if any of this helps?
I am unemployed have tried doing freelancing. 1. I am selling a POS software as a freelance.2.
Used to blog and have adsense ads in it which I earned 176$ for 8 months, and after that my account was block by google saying that I am clicking my own ads even if I am not. 3. Clicking PTC is one of what I do now, but it sad to say that you need to invest to this site first to earn more, and before you can earn more, the site will probably be gone taking away your investment.4.
Only last october I have earn decently enough for 500$ in one month for investing in a Autosurf, but just like PTC there are a lot of fly by night site who would take your investment. The one site that I have earn closed only last month.5. Currently selling used items in a local ebay.
What I was doing for a while was listing ads on Craigslist. Org for things I could do. I made the most money listing what I was capable of doing for computer repair, and offering better deal than other people on there.
I also listed in the section for ride share that I would drive anyones vehicle any where in the united states as long as a return ticket was purchased and expenses paid. Be creative, think of things you can do, and go list ads to target the market your good at. Becuase of Craigslist, I was able to manage getting through an entire year of hell in Orlando.
Now I am in a small town that doesn't have craigslist, and I am trying to get them to start a listing here in Alexandria LA. Have a good day, Josh.
You can start with blog and put adsense and others advertising inside your blog, don't forget to use SEO so your blog can be optimize and get a organic traffic from search engine.
Well Mahalo is paying a type of virtual currency that can be redeemed for a credit to a Paypal Account so thats a good start ;).
I am not unemployed, but I run my own business and do work on the side to earn extra money. Here are a couple of things I have done to support myself: 1) Consulting Work - I have a strong financial and business background, so I have hired myself out on an hourly basis other businesses. This is a great way to make some money and network for a job.2) Network - To build my business, I network in person and online constantly.
I attend local events, connect with people at alumni networks and work Linkedin.com. Talking to people and telling them what you are doing, what you are looking for, etc. Will maximize your chances to bump into good opportunities 3) Employment Workshops - Many schools offer career workshops where groups get together to trade strategies. Hope this helps.
I know that when I was unemployed, I would do side jobs like help my dad out. Since he is an electrician, he truly appreciated my help and in return, I was paid pretty good.
Well this is a hard question to answer. But, since the economy is down 1. U might want a roomate living with you.2.
Sign up for a bridge card 3. Go to craigslist. Com n apply for a job (This website is easy).
Well, much like others on this Mahalo site I am attempting to earn some extra funds through here. But I have also signed up at payperpost. Com and sponsoredreviews.Com which slowly but surely is helping bring in some extra money.
It's just difficult because you have to run a site which gets enough traffic to be paid well for the reviews and articles you right. But every little it helps. I have also signed up at Etsy.
Com and sell items I sew on there. I have sold 14 items thus far which is exciting.
I am a freelance writer and I am still struggling to get some work through oDesk and Elance. If you have some skills in web administration, web or office management, web development and design, illustration, creative or technical writing, you go and bid for various tasks. They usually pay by the hour.
Just an advice, the place is cutthroat when it comes to bidding and there are a lot of competition. Good luck.
When I'm unemployed, I'll do anything for money. And I mean "anything".
Work as a freelancer on the internet... there are lots of freelancer jobs and job sites available... and You can Start blogging as a part time as of now and... become a pro blogger if you are very good at your writing skills...
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
