Grilled--that is a good start to any culinary endeavor. Cheese--quite possibly one of the greatest words since "bacon". Sandwich--the name oozes simplicity, two conveniently placed slices of bread stuffed with anything your imagination can conjure.
On to the recipe: -Start with white bread--bleached flour, devoid of nutrients. Anything else is sacrilege and unsatisfying. -The cheese--American, jack, cheddar or any combination.
Here you have leeway, there are some gourmet grilled cheeses out there with brie or whatever. Just make sure it melts nicely -The pan--nonstick or aluminum, medium to medium high heat. -The procedure--Slap your cheese between those slices--don't be shy with it--and generously butter the OUTSIDE of the bread, pop that sucker down and use a spatula to keep pressure on it as it fries, wait until it gets nice and golden and flip and repeat.
Done. Keep in mind, however, the greatest part of the grilled cheese is the cheese that drips out of the sandwich onto the pan as it cooks and browns against the bread into the greatest tasting thing that has ever lived. Try it, you'll see.
Now carry this knowledge with you back across the pond and spread the good news to your dentally challenged countrymen. Godspeed, good sir.
