If you can find a better paying job, find it. If not, listen to your wife. You have to contribute income to your family.
Not everyone has the creativity, eye-hand coordination or finger dexterity to do braiding. Some people are naturals at it. If you have some natural talent for it, then you can adjust your mental attitude because many highly paid stylists are men, and there is no reason to be embarrassed.
If you do not have a natural knack for braiding, then trying to do it might be an exercise in frustration and your time will be better spent looking for a different job. I hope it is not the case that your wife has natural talent for braiding but doesn't realize that not everyone can do a good job at it because then she will be pressuring you to do something that is not going to work out very well for you.
