I'm looking for good booklists for fiction and historical fiction mostly. One of the last good books I read was a spanish translation of The Shadow of the Wind. I also loved reading My Antonia by Willa Cather.

Try Nancy Pearl... Nancy Pearl, who is a librarian in Seattle Washington, has two books published: "Book Lust" and "More Book Lust. " These two books are books of lists of good books by categories. She also reviews books regularly on NPR, and her website is a good place to go for "what to read" information, too.

Look for public library readalike lists such as the one at Seattle Public Library When I want to find a good book similar to ones I’ve enjoyed, I start by looking at "readalike" lists often published on public library webpages. A good list is at Seattle Public Library, please see: spl.org/default.asp?pageID=collection_re.... Another readalike site I enjoy is at Hennepin County Library : hclib.org/pub/bookspace/FindAGoodBook.cf... site has a search for readalike authors so just put in your author and see what comes up.
I also check the Morton Grove library’s Webrary booklist sites at: webrary.org/rs/rslinks.html. This is a great list of readers advisory links, I always find something I like here. If these don’t work, try doing a search in google with : "if you like" and your author’s name.

2 Robert Harris has some good historical fiction. I've read Fatherland, Enigma, and Archangel (Pompeii is sitting on my to-read stack) and have enjoyed them all. James Michener has also written quite a few but I've found them to drag a bit in the middle.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
