My wife was driving her Citroen C2 today when the gear stick went all slack and she’s struggling to get gears.

She got home fine and I suspect it`s the gear selector mechanism at fault. Can this be replaced on it`s own or do I have to replace the gear rods (cables) also? The dealer wants a fortune for the whole kit, but I found just the gear stick and mechanism on ebay for £50.

After the 80,000 km service by a non-Citroen service centre my Citroen C2 will not start, although the battery`s oay. It seems as if there is an electronics fault. Does the "ecu" have a safe mode or default mode as a protective measure?

Gear selection cables? There are two, I had one snap on my C2 and wouldn’t get first or second. So I imagine if the other cable snapped it would be the other gears.

The cambelt was one notch out. It was replaced with the timing set correctly according to tech. Compression`s okay, fuel pressure`s okay, speed sensor`s okay and no faults are stored.

Even the diagnostic tool when connected showed no errors but the car will not start. I even checked ABS because it`s a safety feature and if faulty does not start. When the starter`s running it sounds like the car wants to start but then dies again.

The local garage says they can`t help me. Can anyone help please? I was wondering if anyone knows another way of getting into a Citroen C2 GT as mine won’t unlock?

I have tried changing the battery inside the key itself and when I insert the key into the barrel the key does not insert fully and stops solid and just twists. I`ve also tried wd40 inside the barrel and taking the black cap that surrounds the barrel off to see if I could insert a small tool into one of the gaps to see if it would catch something and open it. I would appreciate any answers.

The manual received for each Citroen is the same, you just have to find what model of car you have and then check the specifications for the model. I have recently just fitted a new car stereo in my Citroen C2 and when I left the car for about half an hour it wouldn`t open by the fob, so I had to use the key. I left it overnight and when I went to the car in the morning the key wouldn`t work, or the fob.

Now I can`t open the car at all. When I do press open on my key it turns on my stereo instead of opening my car. I managed to open the car door just enough to fit wire in to try and open the door from the inside.

I drove my Citroen C2 in heavy rain the day before yesterday afternoon when the roads were really flooded. I then parked the car for about 6 hours and when I returned to it, it started well and I drove for about 30 minutes, then the hooter started going off on it`s own and the dashboard lights went dim. I unplugged the battery when I got home and left it like that for the night.

2004 C2 GT: Rear wiper wouldn’t switch off the other night and it also emptied washer bottle? Had to remove dash fuse and under bonnet fuse. Replaced days later and sort of behaving itself clicking from inside fuse box and hesitation from rear wiper motor but washer ok?

I have a Citroen C2 VTS, less than 10,000 miles. Had the antiroll bar sorted by Citroen due to shaking and wobble when driving as it was loose... now still experiencing similar problem with the shake, wobble and roll... informed the tracking was the problem... paid for tracking to be tested and sorted... to be told there was no problem with the tracking... Citroen dealership informed me there is no problem with suspension. I went to an independent garage where I was informed there was a problem with the shock absorbers... apparently not covered by warranty (no bounce on car bonnet when pressed).

The antiroll bar was covered under warranty... could this have caused a problem to the shock absorbers? Has anyone else experienced similar problems with this model. My warranty runs out in a week.

I have had a problem with my Citroen C2 shaking and shuddering when turning corners, was told it was shock absorbers, turns out it was the left hand of the drive shaft bar which came loose, needs fixing quickly otherwise it snaps - the little cup it sits in. I had my Citroen C2`s front driver`s side spring coil replaced 1 month ago and when I drove away from the garage I could hear a noise like I was braking.

Sit in the car and lock the doors with the key and then wave your arms around, that should let you know if you have one or not! Does anyone know what could be the cause of this please as I have only had the car 4 weeks from a reputable garage? Unfortunately, that is not a good sign at all. Brown or mayonnaise like sludge in the expansion tank usually indicates head gasket failure.

This would also explain why there is oil leaking from your engine. Get the garage to pick the car up and repair it right away! I have a small oil leak in the same place on my C2.

Not major but advised to get it sorted. I have got it booked in for repair. Previous owner should have had this sorted and garages should not pass MOT’s with this problem before selling it on.

Your back lights are lecking, have you changed the bulbs before this started. When you put the lights back make sure the cable is fed in straight and not bent, it causes the seal not to sit right and leaks. I stipped all my trim, got someone to spray my car and seen the water trickle in.

I too have a 2003 C2 (1.4 Furio Sensodrive). In the 3 months I have owned it so far I have had the flashing snowflake of death fault occur 3 times. Each time I get 3 beeps when turned on and then cannot change gear from Neutral, but everything else works fine and I can rev the engine.

After anything between 45 minutes and 2 hours the fault disappears and everything`s normal. I have little to no experience or knowledge of cars, but have seen many C2 owners on many forums with this problem. Various suggestions include pressing the brake for 30 seconds to reset the gearbox, updating software via Citroen and various others.

Mine have occurred in very heavy slow moving traffic in very hilly areas with the heater on high. I believe this is leading to an overheating problem and most likely linked to the solenoid. It is unlikely to be a software error as the problem has fixed itself after some time without me doing anything.

I discovered that the earth cable from the battery was loose and was not connected to the engine. How do I reconnect it? My Citroen C2 has an electrical problem.

It was caused by the exhaust catalyst breaking up and partially blocking the exhaust. The original fault was a severe misfire due to the ignition unit failure. This caused unburnt fuel to enter the exhaust that destroyed the cat.

If this is your problem get a replacement cat from Citroen. We tried a cheaper alternative at first but the pollution warning kept coming on. I’ve had my 57 plate Citroen C2 for 2 years now and in the time I’ve had it it`s spent most of it`s time in the garage!

I went to a Citroen dealer for a diagnostic test on my Citroen C2. I had to get the bearing and abs sensor replaced. They say when they ran the diagnostic after doing the work that the torque sensor in the steering rack was showing strange readings intermittently.

I am changing my Citroen C2`s rear brake pads. Some six months ago I changed both sets of front pads with no trouble. On removing the rear offside pads I found that the piston would not retract back into the caliper.

The piston is free and can be rotated both clockwise and anti-clockwise but will not retract. I just recently serviced my Citroen C2 1.6 VTS as well as doing a cam-belt change. The ’’SERV’’ light on the dashboard was reset when the service was done, but now it seems to come on every 30 minutes or so into driving the car. When it comes on the car loses power, going into a ’’limp’’ mode.

Is there anyway that I can turn the ’SERV’’ light off for good? I manually reset the ’SERV’ light every time according to the owner`s manual, however the car turns the light off as well if it`s restarted. Is there a deeper meaning to this light or error and if so, what could I do please?

If the slippery car is in a circle it`s the anti-lock braking system - the ABS warning lamp light when the ignition is switched on and should go out after a few seconds. If the warning lamp does not go out there may be a system malfunction. If the slippery car is in a triangle it`s the ESP warning lamp in operation.

If the ESP system is active, the ESP warning lamp flashes in the instrument panel, IN THE EVENT OF A PROBLEM when the vehicle is being driven the lighting of the SEP warning lamp in the instrument panel, accompanied by the audible signal (beep) indicates a system malfunction. Contact a Citroen dealer to have a system checked. FUNCTION DEACTIVATED the warning lamp remains permanently lit.

I had a new gearbox fitted in my Citroen C2 vts. When I came to start the car it wouldn’t run, it was just cutting out and wouldn’t rev. I was told that it was the ECU, so I sent it off and was told that it was really burnt out so I had it repaired.

Now I have put it back into the car it won’t start at all, it just makes a clicking noise from the fuse box near the glovebox. I have checked the fuses and the battery but have not got the slightest clue now and could use some tips. It`s been brokendown for eight months now and is starting to get annoying.

Please can anyone help? The battery is flat on my Citroen C2 but I am unable to remove it. It has a clamp on one side but no instructions on how to remove it.

Yesterday when I went to start it there was no response from the engine. While pressing the foot brake and turning the ignition key to position two I was unable to engage neutral or any other gear. When turning the ignition key to the start position nothing happens.

The battery has power (1 year old) and the battery in the ignition key is okay. A local small garage (not a Citroen dealer) was unable to help. I can’t move the car in the garage because the wheels seem to be locked in gear.

I’ve tried disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it but that does not help. How can I unblock the gear and start the engine? My daughter had exactly the same problem and all it is, we needed a new fully charged battery, the battery that was actually on the car appeared to have enough power to operate everything but it didn’t have enough to reset the gearbox memory feature.

We purchased another battery, connected to the car and within seconds we could hear the gearbox going through its procedure. This happened to us after we didn’t close the boot lid properly. The boot light partially discharged the battery and it didn’t have enough power to select neutral.

We just put in on a charger for 10 minutes and it was fine. Cheaper than a new battery! I’ve just seen your message and wondered if you have fixed the the problem?

Whilst driving the other day my Citroen C2 beeped three times and then the engine stopped. The gearbox (snowflake looking) symbol came up and this suggests that the gearbox is in limp mode. It seemed to do this when it was hot after about 35 minutes driving, but now does it whenever it feels like it.

Has anyone got any idea what is wrong with it? I cannot believe it, I keep getting the same problem with my C2 vtr, it beeps 3 times then cuts out. It usually happens as you say when it is hot.

Everytime I turn on the engine of my Citroen C2 the service light comes on and that comes up in the information. It means the battery in your keyfob needs changing. When I turn the ignition off the engine of my Citroen C2 keeps on running.

I am trying to find an answer to the same problem for my 2004 VTR - 66,000km on the clock. The problem is not consistant so my son (who is a mechanic) says it is probably not the oil pump. I hope he is correct.

I said that this sounded a bit strange but he was adament that this is the solution. The Berlingo apparently has the same problem. When my car was serviced last time a non genuine filter was fitted so I will now try the genuine one.

Helen - I fitted a genuine Citroen oil filter to my car today and it has solved the problem. I have travelled about 100km today (60miles) and the light has not come on once. The difference between the original and after market items seems to be a plastic brace in the centre of the filter.

When you fit it this brace pushes agianst a gizmo inside the filter - result: no more oil light flash. My Citroen C2`s key fob will only work when I`m sitting in the car and the key is close to the ignition. Can anyone help me with this please?

A few months ago my Citroen C2`s check engine light came on after I had driven in very heavy rain. About a week later the light went off and everything seemed fine. However, the other day I drove in really heavy rain and the next day the check engine light came on again.

Does this sound like a glitch or should I worry? When I start to brake to slow down at a junction my Citroen C2 gives 3 beeps and stops. It takes some time to start again but I have to disconnect and reconnect the battery.

I have put in a new battery and it has just passed an MOT. My Citroen C2 drives well but the faster I go the louder the road noise gets. All of the tyres are new or nearly new.

I have checked the air pressure in the tyres and now the road noise is worse. My Citroen C2 drives fine until you get to about 75-10mph, then when the power kicks in it starts over- revving. There is no problem until you get into the higher rev band.

My Citroen VTR C2 idles and rough jumps around under 1000 revs. Sometimes it drops so low that the engine cuts out, there`s a lack of power and a smell of fuel when I drive it for a while. The best way to explain it is that it feels like the timing is out and it`s running rich. It doesn’t overheat , there are no oil leaks or smoke.

I had this problem with my Peugeot 207 but they run on the same computer ECU. How do you remove the fascia panel on a Citroen C2 vts? I’ve changed the diesel filter on my C2 and now it won’t start.

I’ve primed it etc... But still it won’t start. How do I get fuel to the filter? You probably need to release one of your injectors and hand pump till diesel comes out.

What does TPC stand for when referring to the battery spent - flip warning light? When started from cold my Citroen C2 idles rough, sometimes really bad sometimes not too bad. Also, when I press the throttle the lights and blowers will lose power for a split second and I can hear a clicking noise like a relay in the passenger side.

Once the car has driven for a 1/4 of a mile or so it runs perfectly no power loss and no clicking. Has anybody else experienced this? My Citroen C2 just suddenly started shaking, does not idle straight, it sometimes cuts off.

At home the next morning I checked the air filter, oil, water, reset the fuse and reset the car manually but it is still no better. Could it be the petrol filter, if so where is it so I can clean or change it? The Citroen C2 that I have starts easy but it has no power.

I have changed the fuel filter, injector pump and had the injectors tested. I have checked the valve timing but don’t know if the timing marks on the car is right. I am struggling with the same problem at the moment.

My C2 loses revs and dies when you reverse and then want to go forward. Once going forward and going through the gears, it seems to lose power and travels very slowly in any gear from 3rd, 4th and 5th. I have changed the heat sensor, the exhaust sensors and am about to change the stepper motor/ idle control valve.

The C2 also when it idles only goes to 1000revs but erratically. When the car was put on the computer it shows -40 and I was informed to change the heat sensor which made no difference. Any suggestions / ideas?

Have you changed anything on the idle control valve and I hear that there is a laser that controls the timing on the cam which needs to be set in the correct position. That is what I am going to do next. Has anyone else had a problem with a wiring loom?

I have just been told I will need a new wiring loom by my local Citroen dealer. They have no idea as to what as caused it? Have been quoted anything from £900 to £1900 to get it fixed, not happy especially as they have no idea what as caused it or even if it is the fault.

It sounds like you have pressed your speed regulator, these cars are prone to so many beeps and malfunctions. Where to do you locate the hole to fill up the gearbox oil on a Citroen C2? My experience has been that if there are no leaks and it’s all dry then there is oil in the box, but if you have lost oil then you need to drain the rest and have the correct oil and the correct quantity measured out ready to put in.

After draining, put plug back in and tighten correctly. Between the battery and the engine you will have to lift out the airbox, 1 round clip use a screwdriver and 1 clip, you just turn with your hand, lift the box out with a waggle, (the box) and underneath on top of the gearbox you will find a black plastic vent, quick pull and it will come off, you will need a funnel, small one from asda about 75p is perfect, then slowly pour in the correct quantity of oil. I believe it’s two litres but check yourself first, then replace the airbox.

It’s easy but putting the oil in can be a bit time consuming and you will have new oil and the right quantity. Remember if you have leaking seals driveshaft etc then replace them all first. When driving my Citroen C2 my battery lights comes on for a short period then goes off again.

Does anyone know what it means? I had the same issue. Basically, your car’s tpc is messing up, you need to go buy a new one asap before the problem spreads and could (unlikely but could happen) literally destroy the drive belt.

Easy to repair, will cost you no more then £20. Hope this helped! When changing my clock time on my Citroen C2, through the radio controls I have somehow managed to effect the temperature gauge and it no longer shows the temperature.

I have tried to fix this by changing the f and c settings but it just shows - - - -. Please help me fix this. I wouldn’t have thought you could alter this via the onboard computer.

It’s most likely either a fuse or the wiring loom in the drivers side door panel which connects the heat sensor to the wing mirror. Its a brown plug (should be parralel with a black one), pull it out and reconnect it. My Citroen C2’s steering is very heavy when the car is cold, when it warms up, or has been in the sun, the steering becomes very light.

Every time you press the brakes or indicate "BEEP" "BEEP". The solution could be any number of parts of the electrics for the lights on mine it turned out to be the fuse has blown. I would imagine your lights are working intermitently, does your indicator tick faster than usual?

Take it to a good indi mechanic and it should cost you peanuts. Hi just woundering if anyone can help. I recently fitted a clutch to my Citroen C2 but since putting it all back together I have no power steering.

I have checked the ECU connections and the conections on the smaller ECU behind the battery which I think is the power steering ECU. Any help would be really great. Does anyone know where the fuse for the power steering might be?

Checked all lights and they are fine. I’ve been having the sane problem, took it to the garage today and they said the ECU (I think it was called) needs resetting so needs to be taken to a place that deals with the car’s electrics. He also said it’s not causing any damage so not to worry about it.

Also the cold weather can affect them. I have a C2 VTS, had it since new, just done 36,000 miles. Every now and then the battery light comes on, the rear headed screen stops working, this lasts for anything from 5 minutes up to about 20 minutes.

Then the battery light goes out and the rear heated window light starts working again. Has anyone had this problem? I would check your alternator as mine did the same then failed completely.

The battery light means that the alternators aren’t recharging it as the engine is on and the rear-heated screen requires more power to use so it is directly wired into the alternator. If both are happening at the same time, I would suggest checking if the connections are free from corrosion and faults. If they are fine then you might have a problem with the coil inside the alternator in which case you’ll need a new one.

My Citroen C2 is having problems with ’creaking’ and ’jerky’ movements of power steering when in neutral or driving slowly... it is worse when on a smooth road/parking area but eases off when driving faster. I just had cambelt/water pump changed (80,000km service) and thermostat housing replaced as car was leaking fluid and overheating. I hope its not the ECU?

Citroen picked up nothing at the service even after I told them there was a problem with the power steering. I think we have this problem too. I have this problem too.

Just got the car about a month ago, when I got it the original cd player was broken so I put an after market one in. Roughly about the same time I done this I’ve started to get faults with the alarm when I lock it with the key fob. If I leave it for a length of time and try to unlock it, the key fob does nothing.

However if I lock it and then unlock it right away, it unlocks fine. Although when the car won’t unlock with the fob, I’m having to unlock it using the key, which sets the alarm off and also does not unlock passenger door plus boot. I’ve changed the battery in the key fob and it did nothing.

Is the car heavy enough for it to make a difference? Your C2 can be fitted with winter tyres, it is advised to fit them in sets of 4 though, and as for what it is worth, I would say so anyway. Can you fit this car with winter tyres?

I have recently had new injector seals fitted. Upon receiving the car back, there is a loss of power. What do you think this might be?

I`m having exactly the same issue, it`s now been at the garage for over a week with no joy. We just bought the car, my wife and I normally drive automatic cars but we were not used to the semi auto. She keeps complaining that the car role back if she stuck in trafic on a hill, is there a way to stop that?

If it is a C2 VTR, the automatic gearbox is unlike a regular automatic. If you stop on a hill, you have to apply the handbrake or the car will roll backwards. You can do nothing to avoid this roll back; apply the handbrake!

I have a ticking noise and smell from underneath the engine of a 1.4 diesel engine. I have a C2 1.6 16v vtr and it starts fine. Goes into 1st when not moving and when I try to pull away, it bites and then I get lots of grinding noise.

Before this happened, I had a knocking noise coming from the wheel. Think its the driveshaft not sure. It could be the gearbox.

I need help. I have the same thing happening to mine and my wheel has been knocking before it got worse. I have been told it may be the clutch actuator but it is a very expensive job.

A warning message repeatedly keeps indicating that either the brake light, the fog light or the side lamp is faulty but they are all working and none of the lights are out. Why is it doing this and does anyone know how to cancel the warning message? Do you think that it may cure the problem if I took out the bulbs and then re-inserted them?

Took it back to the dealer and they said that due to the car being all computerised that the Operating System needed an update. My battery went flat on my C2 and after I replaced the battery, everything worked fine but now there is no power in my radio. It will not even turn on.

If it’s left for an hour it will start again. Can somebody please advise? If the battery is all good, reckon it’s tied up in the gearbox controller/ECU may need to be reset.

Waiting an hour does work but is temporary and inconvenient. Another temporary way is to make sure it is properly in N for neutral before you turn off the engine as this will keep you going but is frustrating when one forgets. Ie just the clicking noise of the solonid.

Don’t forget it is basically automated manual car, thus can be roll started if you park on a hill. A jump start will not work. Just had service done and the a/c now, when I put it on, when it kicks in it makes a loud bang noise?

Did you manage to sort this out. I am having the same problem, it appears that the cold weather kills the fuse for the window washers! If you have a C2 made between 205-10, it will more than likely have the updated fuse box and you’ll need to replace the 10amp fuse in slot no.3.

Bought a Citroen C2 Sensodrive which broke down on the way home from the dealer. The snowflake and AUTO message came up and the dealer had it fixed at a Citroen garage at a cost of £740 (Actuator and ECU downloads). I collected the car 2 days ago and am now dreading driving it, having read lots of reviews and horror stories about the problems with the Sensodrive models eg. Lurching gears, cars simply locking down into neutral etc. I have a motorway journey coming up shortly and as I will be accompanied by my 8 year old daughter, I am now seriously considering getting rid of this car.

I really regret part-exchanging my trusty old automatic Nissan Micra. At least I felt safe driving it. Can someone please at least assure me that the recent work done on this car to the Actuator and ECU downloads will resolve the problem of the car locking down in future?

The garage to go to is D GILLESPIE PORTGLENONE. When I start my car it beeps and the "airbag" light comes on and stays on. It has done this once previously before but it went off when I re-started the engine.

However this morning it came on and stayed on. I am slighty worried as previous times warning light and beeps have come on my dashboard I had to have the alternator replaced (twice in 6 months, last time being July this year). Not sure what this fault is as I cannot find any information on it.

My car has been great but 2 days ago it started beeping with the airbag light flashing. I pulled over and turned off the engine thinking it would help. I tried to start it up and all I get now is battery flashing and auto with snowflake above it.

I’ve charged the battery twice and reset the car and made it move but the problem just comes back after 5mins of driving. Took it to the dealer and the clutch has gotten old and heavy and that actuator has trouble lifting it to make the change. My daughters Cireon has been blowing fuses linked to the starter motor. After many fuses and repeated visits to 2 garages it has stopped blowing fuses but needed a new battery and now you can drive it on 5 trips and it’s fine and then out of the blue it won't start it just clicks.

Today this happened and a lovely white van driver jump started and it started. Did the fuse blow if the engine was hot (above +-50deg centigrade) only? There is a good reason why I am asking this.

Where is the paint code on Citroen C2 1.4 hdi? Paint code is on the inside edge of the drivers door. You will not find ant tins of ready spray paint available that match your car colour.

I have a Citroen C2 VTR Sensodrive and this morning the auto flashed on the dashboard with what looked like a frost sign - what does this mean? If your dash display has the outside temperature, then it sounds like the snowflake sign indicating a fall in temperature below 5 celsius. Did it get that cold in September?

Nothing to do with temperature, it’s a gearbox fault. Could be a faulty clutch actuator, dodgy batteries do it too, however before spending any major cash have the software update done at Citroen. 80% of these with this fault never happen again after the update.

Sometimes I get a high pitched noise when I am driving. The noise appears to be coming from the front and stops if you put your foot on the brake pad. Having said that I am wondering if it is connected to the hand brake, as when the car is not in use for longer that 2 days, with the handbrake on, the noise is at its worst when used again.

Also is does not happen immediately, it usually starts after approx 10 minutes of driving. Does anyone know what may be causing this? You either need new brake pads on the front or if they have been recently done the anti squeal shims have not been fitted.

I had exact same problem! It’s sticking calipers! Advice, get it done asap as mine eventually overheated and needed new discs pads.

You name it, I had it :/! Does anyone know if the C2 vtr and vts uses the same front disk pads? I have had my C2 for 5 months now and really love it.

The only problem I have encounterd is this: today I was on the last bar of fuel, I put 15 quid in and it remained on the last bar before saying it was entirely out of fuel! Can anyone help? It’s something to do with the level inside the tank that gives the fuel reading, I’ve had it happen a few times.

Stick a fiver in and you will be up at half a tank! I have almost the same problem. My petrol gauge is stuck just over half full.

I filled it up to full and still the same. I disconnected the battery for half an hour and then re-connected, still the same so taking it to the dealer sometime this coming week. It could be a RELAY, could be a faulty wire, could be the tank level gauge inside the tank.

My car would not start after a service at a non-Citroen garage so I called the RAC who took car to their prefrred garage, who were also unable to sort it out. So they took it on to the main dealer who found a problem with a part of the loom and replaced it. They now have it running but it is still not right!

This has taken from 03/04/10 and has been at the main dealer for 8 weeks with no sign of success. The garage that the car was taken to by the RAC refuse to pay until a conclusive diagnosis is achieved. I am at a loss as to know what to do and am between a rock and a hard place - and also without a car!

Any ideas and some help would be good. To all of those complaining of gearbox problems; was it the paddle shift (semi auto) or the stick shift variant that was experiencing the problems?
