I love this question! 1) Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal by Christopher More- Not for the religiosity of this book, but because of the story. This is a humor packed, heartfelt book about best friends, love and sacrifice.
I laughed out loud so many times it was unbelieveable. 2) The Alchemist by Paulo Cohelo - This book is about the journey one takes in life. It is about the choices we make and by doing so the outcomes that follow. It is inspirational at heart, and a fantastic read!
3) Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte - Takes us through the life of one womans struggle to find happiness, love, family, friendship and herself. While many people dislike this text greatly, it is one of the best gothic novels of its time!4) Harry Potter Series by JK Rowling - Ok, I know it is kind of childish, but I began reading these books when I was 15, and each text becomes - as its characters, more and more mature. I enjoy fantasy as well as reality, and this book meets both criterion for me :D This series is about friendship, hardship, and love.
5) Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen - Just read it. This book is AWESOME! YAY!
I love thinking about and remembering all the books I love. Thank you for posting this question!.

Here's my 5 picks... 1. A Tree Grows In Brooklyn by Betty Smith - about a young girl growing up poor with an alcoholic father (whom she adores). Both heartbreaking and heartwarming at the same time.2.
The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter by Carson McCullers - a very perceptive look at society’s misfits, this book tells the story of two men, one a deaf-mute and the other a simpleton, both trying to make a life in a small Southern town. 3. An American Tragedy by Theodore Dreiser - the classic tale of a poor relation who falls for the richest girl in his wealthy uncle’s upstate New York town, but winds up getting a factory girl pregnant.
Riveting book that was based on a true story. 4. Uncle Tom’s Cabin by Harriet Beecher Stowe - I didn’t read this until college, but it is essential reading in order to really understand the evils of slavery.
Wonderful characterizations in Tom and his family along with the infamous slavedriver Simon Legree. 5. The Bostonians by Henry James - if you want to get a look into the Early Feminist Movement and its colorful characters, this book will give you that and much more - fierce love affairs between unlikely characters.
I really enjoyed this story which describes intellectual Boston of the late 1800s and contains many unforgettable characters. An excellent movie too, starring Christopher Reeve and Vanessa Redgrave.P.S. I tried to give a sampler of American literature including Brooklyn, N.Y., South Carolina, Upstate New York, the length of the Mississippi River and its hamlets and Boston, Mass. I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
