A mix of both. Personally, while I don't feel that welfare is necessarily a positive thing, there's no denying the fact that there are millions of poor and unemployed people in this country who rely on social welfare programmes as a means of making ends meet. I'm not gonna sit here and say that everyone on welfare is an angel, but my family was on food stamps for 7 years while my parents made their way through school.
I can only really speak for myself, but welfare, despite it's problems, kept me from starving to death and actually DID what it was supposed to do, it gave my family a chance at a better life. I also disagree with your implying that welfare encourages criminal behaviour among men or having excess children among women. What IS true is that welfare DOES discourage people getting married, but if you've ever been on welfare you'd know that while you DO get more money for having more kids out of wedlock, there is NO real benefit to having 3,4,5 extra mouths to feed on a check that's less than 2000$ a month.
The stereotype of the welfare recipient lazing around on the couch all day while they go out to the club at night and buy expensive stuff on the weekends is just that, a STEREOTYPE. I've NEVER in my personal experience met someone who was on welfare and living an extravagant, materialistic lifestyle. I've seen drug dealers who do, and people who work several jobs and spend their money foolishly...but never a mother of several kids on welfare.
I grew up about 5-6 blocks from where this picture was taken http://www.talkbx.com/forum/gallery/imag... I RARELY saw anyone with really nice things growing up. Also, in the case of octomom, she wasn't some random poor woman who decided to have mad kids. She's actually college educated, middle class and comes from a comfortable background, and does NOT represent your typical family on welfare...nor is she even on welfare last time I checked.
If you cut welfare people will just turn to crime and anarchy.
I think you should only get welfare if you have a job and just need extra help or the welfare company should really track you down to see if you're actually looking for a job. Also how they spend their money should be checked because if you're actually using welfare for your kids and to just help out your life then you should keep getting help. I just don't like it when people by useless things and then complain about their lives.
If you're buying useless things you should be taken off of it or at least suspended from it or given less money or welfare compan should manage your money for you. When I first came here my mom was on food stamps and now we're living in the suburbs. She just needed some help and she used it to her advantage.
She got a job and went to school. I'm proud of her.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
