Is Amanda Knox being mistreated for the Meredith Kercher murder charge?

I'm not sure "mistreated" is the word of choice. Amanda Knox was found guilty of sexual assault and murder on December 5, 2009. The question remains whether the evidence is conclusive or not.

Knox continues to insist upon her innocence, stating that she was at her boyfriend's house the evening the crime was committed. The discrepencies of the evidence are being addressed with the usual appeal process. However, a new third-party review of DNA evidence has recently been granted that may weigh in her favor during an appeal.

Knox's DNA was found on the handle of a knife used in the crime and was used as a major piece of evidence to win the conviction. Speaking of the DNA evidence review, one of Knox's college friends David Johnsrud has said, "That will have a big influence on the tone of the case. If it comes back that the third-party experts agree that the DNA evidence is inconclusive, there’s very little left to tie her to the case.

€¦ The entire case hinges on that. € It has also been revlealed recently that star witness AGAINST Knox, Antonio Curatolo, may not have had the character attributes expected of such an important witness. It was found that Curatolo was actually a homeless heroin dealer and is up for drug dealing charges. As the court proceedings play out and more evidence is presented or rejected, Knox's role in the crime should become more clear.

However the public views the scenario, it appears the Italian court system is working and new facts are being reviewed in a "timely" fashion. Knox has never claimed that she has been mistreated, simply that she is innocent. Only time will tell.

It seems that where ever you look on the www there are very strong opinions held about whether or not Amanda Knox has been treated unfairly. Unfortunately that is almost all you can find opinions. Search as you might it seems like whatever facts there are they seem to be wrapped up in someone’s opinion.

That opinion also seems to determine then how the facts are portrayed. There is a transcript of Amanda Knox’s hand-written statement to the police on the evening of the day she was arrested that can be seen at telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/1570225/T... This transcript of Knox’s hand-written statement was published in full by the Daily Telegraph: Moore, Malcolm (22 November 2007) The contents of this statement portrays a young woman who is confused and muddled, either from the drugs that she had been taking or from the long hours of questioning that proceeded the written statement. Much has been made about the contradictions in Amanda’s accounts of that night.

I am sure that if I were arrested and questioned for the 53 hours that the defence claim that my statement would be full of contradictions too, especially if you throw into the pot a foreign language and culture. It seems like all of the forensic evidence (see Barbie Latza Nadeau’s blog http://www.thedailybeast.com/blogs-and-stories/2009-05-24/will-dna-damn-amanda-knox-/ ) Is circumstantial and is being interpreted as conclusive or questionable depending on whether you are the defence or the prosecution. It has been argued that the police suspected Amada right from the start and this coloured the way that they conducted their investigation and that the forensic investigation was flawed and miss-handled.

On the other hand it has been argued that the forensics in this case prove Knox’s guilt and that the police’s treatment was firm but fair. A lot of media attention has been given to this case around the world which has produced a lot of mixed feelings about Amanda Knox’s treatment. Has Amanda Knox been treated unfairly, I think that she has been treated pretty much like thousands of other people who have been charged with the crime of murder.

Life is not like a TV CIS episode. In real life the experts differ in their interpretations of the evidence and the evidence is often contaminated or overlooked altogether. The police are people who have opinions and those opinions right or wrong influence the way they proceed with their investigations. Is this unfair yes, but Amanda Knox has not been singled out for this treatment it is just the way it is.

In many countries her treatment could have been much worse. There are safe guards in the Italian justice system that Amanda Knox has been able to use such as the appeals process. The high visibility of this case has to some degree insured that people will be watching to ensure that her treatment is seen to be as just as possible.

Is Amanda Knox innocent, from what I have read I really do not know but I personally would have difficulty convicting her on just the circumstantial evidence alone.

I think she absolutely is being mistreated, if only it were being dealt with by the U.S. justice system. I have no idea how the Italian justice system works, but it doesn't seem to be innocent until proven guilty. Look at her, she's pretty, certainly not a threat to society. No bail?

Here is a quote from her: “When you are being interrogated for hours and hours, treated harshly, and dealing with a foreign language and culture, we'll see what kinds of things come out of your mouth. " And it's true, dozens of inmates here in the states have been proven innocent AFTER admitting to the crime. At some point during the process they break, and something tells them that things will get better if they say what the interrogator wants to hear. I know she didn't admit to anything, but her story wasn't exactly crystal.

I think it is a direct result of the poor treatment she was dealt. Remember, it's all about what the jury says. Regular people like you and me have to decide if the evidence adds up.

With her DNA on the murder weapon, and her being an American, it will take an awfully soft jury to keep her out of jail.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
