Is anybody out there 1/4 Italian, 1/4 German, 1/4 English, and 1/4 Irish...like me?

Yes italians are not White people in 1890s and 1950s only Northern Italy are White people.

It was not always an amicable relationship. It may seem that way know, as the grandchildren of the immigrants are 100% American and mix readily with all white people in New York. However, the first generation of immigrants were fiercely opposed to one another...for a variety of reasons.

Competition for scare jobs, housing, Church-Parish control, etc. The Irish did not like the Italians and looked down on them. They were non-English speaking and looked different. Swarthy and often dark-olive skinned, they were considered "dark white."

In turn, the Italians considered the Irish low class, shanty , very nasty and all to be drunks. As the children of immigrants grew, the Irish girls loved the handsome dark-haired Italian boys and the Italian men found the blue eyed and blonde Irish beauties equally irresistible. Many inter-married and created what are widely perceived as the best looking offspring, half Italian and half Irish and usually very attractive!

Today, we see them as loving each other and close. However, that was far from reality. Just ask your grandparents...they were rivals and arch-enemies.

Religion played a part, too. Both groups were Catholics and shared similar values and European culture.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
