1 Well, what you know may not be true. The social security system is good until 2041. It will be fixed if they raise the limit on taxes and the age to start by a year or two.
If they don't and our economy grows at a higher rate than predicted, we will still be ok - and the prediction is around 2%. Most expect it to do better. I was going to wait until age 65 and eight months (my full date) but the numbers worked out better if I started at 65 and two months.
I think I lost just a few dollars a month and it was made up the first year or so. What matters is how much you will earn the year after you retire. If it is significant, you should wait.
If not - then go ahead and start collecting when you stop working. If in between, then talk to an expert.
2 Pales, regarding your answer "Here goes. ":My Social Security Statement just arrived yesterday & I pulled this data from it. If you were born in 1960 or later, the age for full retirement is 67, if you have 40 credits.
You can retire at 62 or any time before full retirement age. However, you benes wil be permanently reduced based on the number of months you receive benes before full retirement age. If your full retirement age is 66, they will be reduced:25% at age 62;20% at age 63;13.3% at age 64; or6.66% at age 65.

The Social Security Administration will have links on their home page. I don't think we have been told the truth about Social Security & Medicare by either party. Congress is the reason for the problem.
The first thing to fix Social Security & Medicare is to place the Congressional retirement package funds into those accounts. Congress set up their own program & withdrew from Soc Sec & Medicare. I am pretty sure that early retirement at 62 is a thing of the past for those who entered the workforce in 1968 or after.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
