The two are different. San Francisco Chinatown had population of 100,574 people in year 2000 while NY Chinatown has population between 70,000 and 150,000 (estimated). San Francisco's Chinatown is special because it's so concentrated and the streets are very narrow.
If you've been to China, it's not too far from the real deal which makes it a really cool destination because the food is real and it's cheap. If you do visit SF Chinatown, visit the little alleys like Waverley and Ross. Some of the neatest things can be seen and heard, the constant clatter of mah jong tiles being scrambled, the roar of a drum beat of a martial arts dance troupe practicing, the smell of fortune cookies being made...etc. Years ago, the police cracked down on fake handbags, weapons, and other illegal items.
Since then, it has been harder to buy things like switchblades, butterfly knives, and knock off designer stuffs. You might still be able to find it, but the quality won't be as good and you'll have to dig ... more.
I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
