Fiber optics have greater transmission speed of digital information and bandwidth for higher video resolution than other means of carrying data. It is to DSL what DSL was to dial-up, only more so. It will likely put cable and wireless broadcasting where the horse and buggies went.
Remember what Hermann Göring accomplished before television was in every home, and then imagine what he could do with today's technologies. Consider how the internet and cellular communications are effecting the Middle East. It clearly has a destabilizing influence on existing political regimes abroad and at home.As to how the flood of information and misinformation that fiber optics will bring to everyone everywhere, recall George Orwell's 1949 novel "Nineteen Eighty-Four.
" s foreshadowing just may be taking a little longer than he imagined.
I was imagining the effect of wide spread fiber optic connectivity in the near future. In England today, video observation of the general public is highly developed and is still expanding. Similar efforts are being pursued in many major metropolitan centers here and abroad.
The decreasing physical size and increasing resolution of video cameras, wirelessly coupled to high speed broadband networks, will enable the kind of citizenry monitoring that Orwell imagined more than fifty years ago when television was little more than a toy. Given a markedly reduced need for people employed in manufacturing in the not too distant future*, I can easily envision a massive cadre of observers glad to be working for a corporation whose business is protecting whichever political system that pays to have an eye kept on malcontents. Other corporations (maybe the same one worldwide by 2100) will provide the police and reeducation centers.
*(see my answer to Squeeky-changes-suck's question: "In you opinion when unemployment goes up, do employer's take advantage of it? ") Sorry about the long sentences and short paragraphs.
I say, anything that disrupts the business process is bad for business. GoldenLion 8 months ago .
If Orwell and my ominous projections of the future are accurate, business will be good and our Lords will be happy.
Your predictions of the future will probably be wrong and the Lords are never satisified with results. GoldenLion 8 months ago .
You are right about the Lords never being satisfied.
Probably, the future is unknowable. However, megatrends are knowable because if large numbers of people start moving in one direction the momentum usually does not divert suddenly unless there is a shock, a group consensus change, or some chaotic disruption that put the group into disagreement. You are right. When I bought my Apple II, I could not have imagined the World Wide Web and its impact.
CorrectVoice recognition and computer vision will transform computing interfaces. The extent of this technology is not predictable. GoldenLion 8 months ago .
" "in nj, do child support payments cover things like school teacher gifts, class trips, cell phones for kids, etc? " "What (life-changing) inspiring influencing works or places to visit or things to experience do you know?" "Transfering data through fiber optics. " "Is there another solution for transmitting data by fiber optics? " "have you ever had a life changing epiphany?" "do you sell used nextel cell phones?
Why are mobile phones called "cell" phones.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
