Opinion Yes. Well, to be honest, there is some evidence that global warming is actually occurring. But the notion that mankind is responsible for it is much less widely accepted than the alarmists would have you believe. So is the notion that the result will be catastrophic.
And the notion that Kyoto can do anything to stop it is just flat out false Another view No, it is not a farce. The vast majority of climate scientists round the world believe that we are affecting the climate by our unrestrained release of carbon dioxide (among other things). They also believe that we can do something to prevent global climate change if governments act now Another view Who can say no to "saving the planet"?
What selfish person would insist that his rights be respected, in the face of this eminent catastrophe? That's why the alarmists have to make the threat sound really, really bad. Oceans rising by hundreds of feet, they predict, when, in reality, 18 inches is the absolute highest they could possibly rise.
Food supplies endangered, they warn, when in fact global warming, if it continues, will double global potential food production. More human deaths due to heat stroke, they claim, while ignoring the much larger number of lives that will be saved from cold-weather-related deaths Another View The answer truly is that we do not know either way. The current evidence is that there has been warming for the past 6000 years.
We know that the planet has warmed during that time by some 10 to 11 degrees. Since man has started burning fuel we have seen an additional 0.2 to 0.6 degrees warming. Most of that pre 1938 era.
Since 1938 we have seen a virtual standstill of temperature. The warmest year on record is 1999 by less than 0.1 degree. Funding for research on this subject currently demands that we keep looking at man being the cause.
The oil companies spend millions on the research, but our government spends billions. Where would you go for your research money?1) No new record year since 1999 despite climbing use of fuel 2) Man produces 0.28% of all greenhouse gases 3) The warming this cycle started between 6000 to 8000 years ago 4) CO2 has never led temperature now or in the past (oceans are the reason here) 5) Vostok has proven that 4 previous cycles (100K years apart) that are the same as this one 6) Virtually all of this warming trend is pre 1938 If you ask any scientist if man has any responsibility to the current warming, the only honest answer has to be URL2 may be les then 0.0001%, but that counts. This is hardly an endorsement for the bad science Another View No serious scientist disputes the position that global temperatures have increased since the industrial revolution, the evidence is overwhelming.97-98% of the top climate scientists agree this warming is due the man.
(William R.L. Anderegg, James W. Prall, Jacob Harold, and Stephen H. Schneider April 9, 2010.
Expert credibility in climate change, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America. Retrieved June 23, 2010.) No scientific body of national or international standing has maintained a dissenting position. The Intergovernmental panel on climate change (IPCC) position of January 2001 states: "An increasing body of observations gives a collective picture of a warming world and other changes in the climate system... There is new and stronger evidence that most of the warming observed over the last 50 years is attributable to human activities.(IPCC 1991) Another View 2010 was the record year by many estimates, although technically tied with 2005 and 1998 by some estimates Man is responsible for 99% of the NET increase in greenhouse gases which lead to global warming. Non-condensable greenhouse gases such as CO2 generate heat which induces more water vapor to be taken from the oceans which causes further warming Time spans longer than 10,000 years are governed by orbital effects, we were not due for global warming Another View There are tens of millions of scientists in the world.
Probably only a small fraction of those who have been asked to sign did sign and the majority of those were not specialists, or even scientists in some cases. Also bear in mind some scientists are fossil fuel geologists. Some of the alleged signatories are even dead!
There are many other problems, see the link 'the Oregon petition Properly conducted surveys suggest about 90-98% of scientists agree with the AGW consensus, the more they know about the subject the more agree 2010 was the hottest year according to GISS and when using an average of several sources. The last decade was also the warmest on record Man is responsible for 99% of the NET increase in warming since the industrial revolution. Non condensable greenhouse gases such as CO2 trap heat which then allows more water vapor to be released into the atmosphere from the oceans, this then causes further warming.
This myth originates from confusing net gain with turnover of greenhouse gases, or assuming the extra water vapor wasn't indirectly due to man made greenhouse gases The last significant warming cycle started about a century ago when man-made greenhouse gases started to substantially increase. The trend was slightly down prior to that CO2 is synonymous or slightly lagging the latest CO2 rise. CO2 amplified previous forcings, that is why it seems to lag.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
