Is Islam sexist against women?

In Muhammad's farewell address (before he died) he said that women have rights too. They have the right to be fed and clothed, if they are good obedient believer wives. Muhammad also ended the practice of female infanticide in the Arabian peninsula.

Muhammad's first wife, Khadijah, was a business owner, so women also had the right to own property and do business. So those are the positives. On the negative side, Muhammad said that women were deficient in intelligence, and that the vast majority in hell were women.

Muhammad allowed female captives to be used as sex slaves. He allowed men to have four wives, and to divorce them for the slightest reasons. Women were not permitted to travel freely, would be beaten when ungrateful, and treated as property.

Their testimony in court was worth 1/4 of a man's, and they would only inherit 1/2 what males inherit. By the way, in ancient societies it was common to marry a girl when she started having periods. That is why Mary, the mother of Jesus, was arranged to be married when she was 12.

However Muhammad was 50 when he was betrothed to 6 year old Aisha, and the marriage was consummated when she was 9 - a bit young even in ancient societies. Muhammad went on to have about 10 more wives and had as many as 9 wives at once (and an unknown number of concubines).

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
