A lot of folks seem to be angry at them. The company web site doesn't say much. You have to contact them for just about any drop of information, which would make me uneasy if I were considering them.

They are apparently a form of PPO (preferred provider organization) which means you have to use the doctors on their lists. That means it will be absolutely vital that you see if there are doctors you like on the list before you sign up. It also sounds a bit like Delta Dental, which really doesn't pay well (example: you are allowed a lifetime benefit of $1000 towards braces, yet braces cost about $7000).

Delta isn't an insurance plan but actually a discount plan, whereby if you go to the Delta Dentists you gat a discount on services, not actual insurance coverage. We ended up spending less by self-insuring and by negotiating our own discounts with providers by offering to pay cash upfront. One might argue that any insurance is better than no insurance, but it sounds fairly expensive.

Also, you need to follow their rules precisely to avoid giving them any reason to deny a claim. You may have to bite the bullet and call them to get the information you need, examine it closely and figure out whether it would be cheaper to go with them or with another alternative. "I was a member of NASE aka Mega Life.

I had an insurance policy before but I gave it up when NASE offered me a plan for the same amount. Since they represent self-employed persons alledgedly, they have extra benefits that I thought would be useful. I think I paid somewhere in the area of $200 to $250 a month for a single person, age 35-40, non-smoker, and living in California. At any rate, when I actually USED any service I always had to foot the vast majority of the bill!

I'd get a lab test done that cost $90 and they would pay something like $12 of it. I'd have a doctor's visit for $125 and they'd pay something like $20 of it.It was ridiculous. A total waste of money.

It wasn't really an 'insurance' plan so much as a 'discount' plan. Nothing at all like any other plan I've been on. I would highly recommend you get a real schedule of service with real dollars for various types of tests that they will pay and compare it with the same from another carrier.

Aside from all this, it was presented to me as an association for self-employed which also just happened to provice a health plan.In reality NASE has very close ties to the insurer Mega Health and so they are just insurance salesmen, not looking out for the welfare of their customers as self-employed. Just abusing that perspective to sell insurance. "And another:"The Mega Life Insurance Company , after being told it's services were not needed and I did not want the insurance, A MONTH LATER took a month's premium from my bank account.

I was never covered by these people. This led me into overdrafts, closing of my back account , and opening a new bank account which led to, including the money they stole from me, losses of about 500 dollars. I knew when they insisted on access to my bank account that something was fishy, but I was desperate for health insurance, so I made this mistake.

Never give these people this informatioon. I never thought their company, or their local agent, Robert Kirchner, would be so unethical as to take money out of my account a month after the insurance had been refused. Please be careful doing business with this company."And yet another:"We searched for a health insurance company to cover my children and I and found a local company that works for a larger company.

We (my husband and I) met in our home with the representative and explained exactly what we needed and was given the information on what it would take to start that policy. We agreed upon certain terms and needs and signed and paid in advance for our policies to start. Within 3 weeks we received our packet and our policies took affect on the 2 April.

My children and I had some appointments set up and completed and found out that the policy was not actually benefitting us. We have ended up paying out more than 85% of the cost of the doctor's bills and the company has only paid a very minimal amount that should have been what we pay for a copay or percentage of services to be paid."And even another:"This company wrote a policy for me evidently without checking any health information. I am healthy and have no preexisting conditions.

As long as you have no claims everything is ok and they continue to cash your premium checks. The minute you see any physician for anything and they recieve a claim, they scrutinize it. I have only had 4 office visits to physicians in the last 5 years.

When mega life and health recieved a claim, they stated they needed me to send them a list of all physicians complete with contact information for them to proceed processing the claim. I did this. They then denied the claim on the basis that they did not recieve the requested information from the three physicians that I had recently seen.

The dermatologist office stated that no request was made. The podiatrist and orthopedist office gave me copies of fax transmittals to mega health and life that was dated several months ago. One of the claims that mega health and life was scrutinizing was a dermatology visit for a condition that was diagnosed as a allergy to detergent.

By definition, this can't be a preexisting conditon. I then took off work to get copies of all medical records myself and I sent it to them two weeks ago. They stated in their denial when medical records become available, they would reopen the claim.

They have so far done nothing. This company is an absoulte disgrace and should be put out of business. I am a licensed physician in 21 states and find it appalling that this company can operate this way, and government agencies look the other way.

I called the florida insurance commission, and they acted as if they didn't care. Evidently my premium payments were charitable contributions to this joke of a company. I quickly cancelled my policy after they stated that they recieved a claim for $10.00 from one physician office and were requesting medical records for this $10 claim.

"Then there is a whole website about how to sue them which says:"If you purchased a healthcare policy from MEGA Life and Health Insurance Company (MEGA), you may not have the kind of coverage that was promised to you. That’s what many MEGA policy holders have found out the hard way. MEGA has been accused of selling policies through a sales team that only represents them, yet doesn’t tell consumers that.

Instead, the salesperson insinuates that consumers are joining a “group” that has access to the best rates – the old “strength in numbers” routine. According to consumer attorneys, the people who bought these policies have to be very careful, because, although they’re marketed as major medical policies, they have limited schedules whereby they have limited payments, for instance, for a hospital stay or for a physician’s visit. These attorneys have clients that have thousands and thousands of dollars of medical bills where these companies are paying a small percentage of the bills, which they claim is all that is owed under the policies as written.

However, the people who have purchased these policies were misled to believe they had true major medical insurance coverage and that they would be protected. Don’t Rely on What You Were Told Unfortunately, many consumers only look at the price and mistakenly believe that they have purchased good health insurance coverage at good rates. Not so.

In one instance, a man in southern California whose cancer was in remission purchased coverage for several hundred dollars per month. He was told by the salesperson that the company would provide a rider that would include coverage for him if his cancer ever came back. It did.

However, when he sought treatment, the insurance only paid a fraction of the total bill because, unknown to him, his policy contained huge deductibles. In addition, the policy limits for hospital stays were well below what hospitals actually charge – leaving him in financial ruin. If you have insurance through MEGA or one of its sister companies, NASE, Midwest National Life Insurance Company of Tennessee, Alliance for Affordable Services or from its parent company, Health Markets, take a moment to double check on what is covered and what is not. Don’t rely on what the salesperson told you – and if you’ve wrongfully been denied proceeds from your policy, contact an attorney.

I wasn't impressed! I have seen sales presentations for this company (and also the Nat'l Association for the Self-Employed) and frankly, wasn't impressed. They cost pretty much the same as 'real insurance', in my case (Blue Cross) didn't seem to offer as much, and certainly aren't as clear as Blue Cross on how they cover you.

They are basically a discount plan, not actual insurance. They are cheaper than regular insurance, but they don't pay in full like insurance does, they only pay partially. The advantage to the plan is that they will accept you and provide service even if you are in poor health.(Think about regular insurance - why would they accept someone who is already sick if they will only lose money!)If you're in a health insurance jam, where you need coverage and can't get it at a reasonable price, then maybe you settle for a plan like this company offers.

But if you are in decent health, you might as well spend the extra money and get real insurance - the difference (if you have a big problem) is huge. Hope this helps! Sources: My opinion .

Mega Life and Health Ins. Review and Ratings Survey Respondents Comments:Took an extremely long time to file a claim. I am a student and it was in excess of months before I got any kind of decision on my claim which was rejected because it was said that there was a preexisting condition.

This insurance is BAD. They are a pain to work with and I had to fax them the same information countless times. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Claim was paid in 14 days!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Beware of the sales pitch from the independent representatives. This insurance is not what it appears to be. This company only pays what they feel are reasonable charges for services rendered and in many cases they have paid zero on several of my claims for routine medical services.

I am very bewildered but can't change companies because of pre-existing conditions. Do not put yourself in my situation where you have no other options. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Claim was paid quickly.

Agent was there for questions and assistance. This company does what it says it does. No more, no less.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------MegaLife decides what the proper amount is for a procedure, which is alot less than what you will be charged. You are left making up the difference. This company is one of the worst out there.

STAY AWAY. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Rip-Off Artist Sources: http://insurance.freeadvice.com/reviews/33/ .

I am looking for a book on how to start an insurance company.

Need to know what life insurance company my father had.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
