Is it a good idea to wait to buy an iPad until the HP Slate is released?

While the HP Slate is an interesting device -- for me, the most captivating features are the front-facing camera and SD card slot / USB Port connectivity options -- I believe the iPad has the most to offer. As a photographer, the SD card slot being built in would be great. However, I don't mind having the little adapter that Apple somehow deems necessary for this functionality if it means having the larger, higher-quality (IPS) and higher-resolution screen.(1024x768 vs 1024x600) I had an Asus EeePC 10.1" and it ran Windows 7 beautifully.

The unfortunate thing is that it eats up batteries. As you stated, 5 hours versus 12 hours is hardly a competition. Perhaps if the HP Slate had a user-replaceable battery and/or user-upgradeable components (RAM, SSD, etc.) then it'd offer something the iPad doesn't.

I say if you're in the market for a tablet of some sort, the iPad is the way to go. It provides the beautiful, simple experience an iPhone and iPod Touch offer with excellent battery life in a lightweight package. Sure, the battery isn't replaceable, but shelling out $99 in a year and a half for a replacement isn't unreasonable -- you've probably done it at least once for your laptop.

If a tablet -- in this case, the iPad -- doesn't fill a need in your life at the moment, hold on. Apple's big cannonball into the tablet pool will bring some attention to that market and hopefully spur some interesting competition. The Archos tablets never got too far off the ground, but their Android OS was pretty neat.

The JooJoo is a half-baked product, but promising nonetheless.(Software updates could make it much more appealing. Or perhaps hacking Windows 7 onto it.) There is a lot of potential for a moderately-sized device such as the iPad, Slate and JooJoo, so it doesn't hurt to sit tight and wait a few months to see what happens, does it?

Buy both of them... You know... HP has had "slates" for a long time now. Slates are nothing new.In fact, I'm writing on one right now. It's actually a convertible tablet, but... same thing.

I think, no matter what you get, you're going to put it to good use. Some of us know how we're going to use the device before we buy it...

Not being one who needs the new toys for the sake of its newness, I know that I am waiting, as the price difference and the feature compares so far (especially the dual cams, a front facing web cam and a rear facing camera are attractive to me. Windows 7 has been a life saver for Microsoft OS and its versatility and the market for apps etc are another attractive element of the HP Slate for me as well. Will be looking for comparison articles and go out and view the HP Slate when it is available.

For now waiting.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
