Leslie and I spoke about this, we agree that it may not be fair for users to place nomination Tiki's before a contest is posted. Where would it stop? Users could begin posting nomination tikis 2-3-4 days in advance.
Advance nominations may cause confusion to authors who see their nomination Tiki but can't find their nomination. So to make our life easier, please post the nomination Tiki only after you posted your nomination in the AOTD thread. I've reworded the rules and daily template to adhere to this change.
I think it is unfair to preempt the start of the contest by nominating answers before the start of the contest. Not a huge unfairness in the scheme of things, but it doesn't see quite right.
Great question Chris! I think it should be ok if they want to post the nomination tiki torch's before the contest goes up. This is one way to ensure your nomination of the day.
However Jeff might have other ideas :D.
I can't see any reason why that would make the nomination unfair. Then again, I'm not entirely sure what you mean by pictures. Are you referring to the avatar pictures?
I don't see anything wrong with it. Why don't you just do the same, as soon as you run into an AotD worthy answer, 'claim' it by adding a comment stating you're going to nominate it? You can always add the tiki later on.
There is no reason for the AotD competition a game of 'who can post a nomination first after the nomination thread goes up'.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
