Actually there are many reasons. All of them make good sense from a Republican point of view. First of all, Republicans believe tax cuts stimulate the economy.
Well into his second term, after doubling the entire pre-existing national debt, Ronald Reagan was still insisting that the tax cuts would stimulate the economy enough to pay for themselves. Revenues did increase, a little, but not even pay the interest on the national debt! But this is like a religious tenet--it's true just because it's true, and evidence be damned.
Secondly, Republicans don't believe government works, or even that it -can- work. Yet they desperately want to be in charge of this enterprise doomed to failure? Why is that do you suppose?
They see running the govt. As a way to funnel taxpayer money to their friends and sponsors--the corporations and the 'ownership class'. Usually they try to be a little sneaky about it, but GW Bush took this idea so seriously he did it right out in the open, with enormous non-competitive and non-accountable contracts to favored corporations like Halliburton, KBR, Blackwater etc. To Republicans, that's what govt.
Spending is FOR, not building roads and bridges, guaranteeing every kid a good education, making sure we all have a job or enough to eat. Govt. Doesn't work for those things.
Third, starting with Reagan, the Republican Party was taken over by 'program conservatives', people dedicated to reversing the New Deal--doing away with Social Security and other 'entitlement programs', widening the gulf between the rich and the middle class. Some experts think Reagan was deliberately planting a 'debt bomb' so the govt. Could later say we simply can't afford SS and Medicare anymore, that programs that help working people are frivolous and wasteful.
In fact, if McCain had won in 2008 I can very easily see him saying 'Well, we're in trouble now so we have to do away with SS, or privatize it. Sorry. Not my fault'.
Finally there is the Prime Directive--anything a Democrat does is just -wrong-, even if Republicans do it too. During the Clinton administration we learned that there is a long list of 'crimes' that are only illegal if a Democrat does them. Like letting friends sleep in the Lincoln Bedroom.
Or changing staff in the White House when a new president moves in. Or sending a wife and kids on vacation at taxpayer expense. Republicans did this too, of course, but for them it's not illegal.
The Republicans now harshly oppose ANYTHING Obama wants or does or says or proposes. Even if it's something they want themselves! Agreeing with him, they figure, working in a bipartisan cooperation, just hands him a victory and validates his presidency.
And they only want him to fail. They don't care what damage they do to the country in the process, only about getting back into control so they can continue to fight against entitlement programs and throw taxpayer money at their sponsors.
We get that racists like you only care that Obama is a "historic black president" but come on.. nonsense like this isn't going to win you any converts. Obama has already increased US debt as much as Bush.. and he's only been in office for two years. He's done NOTHING to improve the economy, and no.. he's not even trying.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
