Is it true that in Maine, there are NO PROPERTY TAXES for those who own a REAL log cabin?

I have heard it said (by "Maine-iac" acquaintances of mine) that if you own a genuine log cabin in that state, that you are exempt from ever paying any property taxes on it, because the state wishes to encourage the construction and perpetuation of log cabins there, to add to the "rustic reputation" of the state. My public thanks to HELENofTROY for "reminding me" of this question that I have long been intending to ask, but just kept forgetting to do. I am grateful to her.

It MAY be true, but I couldn't find it listed in their tax exemptions... Aw, that was so nice, thank you Partially exempt property tax relates to the following categories: Homestead Exemption -This program provides a measure of property tax relief for certain individuals that have owned homestead property in Maine for at least twelve months and make the property they occupy on April first their permanent residence. Property owners would receive an exemption of $13,000. Homestead Application Veteran Exemption - A veteran who served during a recognized war period and is 62 years or older; or, is receiving 100% disability as a Veteran; or, became 100% disabled while serving, is eligible for $6,000.

Veteran Exemption Application Paraplegic Veteran - A veteran who received a federal grant for a specially adapted housing unit may receive $50,000. Veteran Exemption Applicaton Blind Exemption - An individual who is determined to be legally blind receives $4,000. Blind Exemption Application Partial exemptions must be adjusted by the municipality’s certified assessment ratio.

All of the above exemptions require completion of an application to the local town office where the property is located. Exemption claims may require additional information to support the claim for exemption, and must be delivered to the Assessor’s office no later than April 1 st . A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
