My wife is breastfeeding a baby and was thinking about getting Lasik eye surgery. Is there anything dangerous about the surgery that would impact breast milk? I doubt it, but just curious if anyone who has had Lasik eye surgery would know of anything that could be dangerous.

It should be completely safe My mom has had lasik done and she did not require any heavy meds that would affect breastmilk. She took Motrin which is okay for babies drinking the moms breastmilk. If anything the only thing that would be unsafe, is if your wife could not see immediately after the surgery and would require your help getting around and taking care of the baby.
My mom had blurry vision for 1 1/2 weeks, then all of a sudden it was perfect. She was about 40 when she had it done, so age may have been a factor. You are completely awake during the procedure so she would not have to be concerned about the anesthesia getting into the breastmilk.
I had surgery when my daughter was 3mo, I solely nursed her, no bottles, so once I woke up I knew she'd be hungry and I asked my anesthesiologist if it was okay and he said i'd be fine, although he said some don't recommend it. The best thing to do would be to call any lasik place and ask real quickly. I doubt they'd mind at all, since I doubt you'd be the first to ask.
I also had a friend who had it done about 2 months ago and he didn't require any heavy meds either. Maybe some people do for certain situations but with the people I know, they have not.
Lasik eye surgery is safe As a physician I can assure you that there are no real dangers towards your baby. Your breast milk will contain the medications that are prescribed for you after surgery such as, pain medications, sleep aids, etc. Though these medications will be very little in your breast milk, since you will only need them for maybe a day or two...but to be on the safe side pump your breast milk before surgery or use formula for those few days. I would not do it until your hormones are back to normal and all swelling has gone away.
1 According to my lovely wife, the only potential danger is the medication they will give your wife after the surgery is complete. Those medications (pain relief, sleeping aids, etc) will transfer to breast milk and are not safe for your little one. So after a few days or the medication is up, she should be ok to nurse again.

A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
