There was a research conducted and they found out that babies who are given Calpol or other forms of paracetamol are twice more likely to develop asthma. Those who were given medicines in the first 15 months of life have also higher risk of suffering from allergies when they get older. Researchers believe that the increase incidence of asthma in the last 50 year may be associated to those increasing number of parent who give their children paracetamol for pain or fever.

The study also found that babies who had paracetamol in the first 15 months were twice likely to have suffered wheezing and other symptoms of asthma by age 6, and were three times more at risk for allergies like hayfever. Paracetamol has prominent antipyretic and analgesic effect. Its depresses the prostaglandin synthesis by inhibiting the specific cell cyclooxygenase and depression of the thermoregulatory center located in medulla oblongata.
