Is the HP TouchSmart going to get the same kind of developer support as the iPad?

The most important difference between the HP TouchSmart and the iPad are that one uses an operating system designed specifically for it, while the other uses a port of a desktop OS. The iPad launched with iPhone OS 3.2 which was adapted from the wildly successful iPhone platform. This allowed the iPad to use the same Multi-touch interface as the iPhone and was spectacularly successful.

Millions have been sold in less than a year since the iPad was introduced and the pace shows no signs of slowing. One of the biggest draws of the iPad is the ecosystem of apps in the app store. The iPad can run all of the iPhone's apps, as well as more than 60,000 designed specifically for it.

The HP TouchPad used Windows Vista as it's operating system and as a result, the lack of a centralized app store and the slow sales figures the tablet has thus far seen indicate that developer support will lag behind the iPad for some time.
