Is the saying "once an addict, always an addict," true?

Addiction is a progressive disease and although someone might have stopped the drug use or the addictive behavior the monster of the disease of addiction is still doing push ups inside and getting stronger by the day. Ever notice how an alcoholic will be sober for a while and then relapse and while in relapse the behaviors associated with the addiction are far worse the second or third or fourth time around? Alcoholics are addicts and this behavior is common.. in out, in out, in.. out ..dead is the usual progression.

Same with nicotine addicts.. once a person quits for a period of time and then starts up again they tend to smoke more than they did before they quit and have a harder time quitting again? This is the addiction progressing daily within their minds and bodies every single day despite not smoking for that period of time. So yes.. once and addict always an addict.

The difference is active or not active. (not active would be described as "an addict in recovery" meaning they are treating their addiction day by day) The addict, active or in recovery, is in ever growing danger as each day passes as the disease is progressing daily and the longer they have the disease of addiction the worse the relapse will be. In.. out, in.. out, in.. out.. Dead.

I have seen this way to many times, 15 to be exact.

It is true that it is hard to stop an addiction but it's not impossible. It requires a strong will and support but there are thousands of people out there that have proved this saying false.

I don't think that's really a fair statement. While you may always have a propensity to addiction that you have to guard against, you can change or clean up, quit, whatever you want to call it. My wife quit smoking which is supposedly one of the hardest addictions to quit.

People can change, I'd like to believe.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
