I don't know. I never did either one. The challenges are very different.
If you can't do the fouettes in "Swan Lake", it's obvious. In terms of characterisation, personally I would have found "Swan Lake" easier than "Beauty", because the characters are much more clearly delineated, whereas in "Beauty" it's a more subtle change from a young girl to a princess. It's not black-and-white.
It's hard to find a good characterisation there. I never did "Giselle", and so I can't honestly comment. Have you got other plans to stage Balanchine ballets for another company?
Not right now. New York City Ballet will start work in October, and we will have a tour to Chicago for a week. So I have to rehearse "The Four Temperaments" and others, and then prepare for our regular season.
We are doing "The Sleeing Beauty" after "The Nutcracker". Inevitably I'll be involved with that. I know that you dance Carabosse.
What other mime roles do you do? I also enjoy doing Madge in "La Sylphide". I did this role ... more.
I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
