Is there a benefit to buying a cd player vs. a dvd player which also plays cd's, when using for audio?

No - no benefit A DVD player which also plays CDs plays them in exactly the way a CD only player plays them. CD-only players are a dead technology. The move from a CD player to DVD that plays CD's is not like the move from record player CD, or tape deck to CD.

Anything that plays on a DVD player can also use the same CD medium.

If you're talking about buying a CD player as a component of your sound system/home theater system, a good CD player probably won't cost much less than a basic DVD player. And some DVD players may have sufficiently good front panel displays that you can program a music CD without having to look at an onscreen menu on your TV in order to see it.

One advantage to just using a DVD player is that almost all DVD players will have digital outputs, so if you hook it up to your stereo receiver, your music will not be susceptible to any kind of noise that may be generated by interference from an analog cable. But again, a good component CD player should have this capability as well. So bottom line... it depends.

No I really wouldn't think so. They're both going to be just as good at playing audio CDs, but the DVD player can also play DVDs obviously. It's like getting two products in one and the price difference isn't much of an issue these days..

Almost every DVD player that I have seen (even in the $30 range) has dual outputs - one that goes to your TV and one another that goes to your reciever/amp, so you don't need to hook up a separate reciever/amp or turn on a TV.

I cant really gove you an answer,but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest.
