Is there a significant difference between a designer and a non-designer clothing?

Most of the clothes in your closet were first the brainchild of a designer. This designer designed, constructed, and re-constructed this piece until they got it just right. Then, they showed it in a fashion show and got rave reviews.

Within the next year or two, something close to it was seen in the stores that you and I shop in. The reason why designer clothes are expensive is because of the time, energy and the work put into them. These designers bring fashion to the masses and although most of us cannot afford to purchase the latest creations from the House of Chanel or even Stella Mc Cartney, we do purchase clothing that is inspired by the latest fashions.

Many of today’s fashion designers understand that the average woman cannot afford to purchase their latest runway designs, so some do a line for a particular department store, or even discount store, such as Isaac Mizrahi’s designs for Target. They were good quality wardrobe pieces that were reasonably priced so anyone could purchase them. By doing this, Mizrahi became a household name and many designers have joined him in doing this.

Liz Claiborne and Donna Karan also have lines for the average consumer. Liz Claiborne at JC Penney and Donna Karan’s DKNY label can be found at Macy’s. Most department stores offer good quality pieces to their shoppers.

Department stores, unlike smaller boutique shops must maintain a certain degree of quality because it is imperative to build return clientele.
