Is there a simple, easy to make jig for sharpening knives with regular whetstones?

Get some angle iron (aluminum or steel) cut two pieces about 3/4 of an inch long. With a small "C" clamp or vise grip clamp the angles together with the blade of the knife in between forming a "T" shape and keeping the edges of the angle irons aligned and gripping about 1/8 to 1/4 inch of the back edge of the blade. You may need to ad some shim for thicker blades.

For really long blades make 2 sets 1 for each end of the blade. Place the wet stone on a wood surface slide the blade along the wet stone, the angle iron should be kept against the wood surface so the blade does not tip this will keep your angle on the edge of the blade. You can also shim the wet stone or the angle iron to get a more desirable angle on the blade.

Using 2 pieces of angle iron allows you to do both sides of the blade at the same angle without un-clamping.

I would cut a broad wedge out of a wood block at the desired angle for your knife. The wedge you would hold (or somehow affix) against the whetstone with one hand, while the other would move the knife, against the whetstone, with the wegde maintaining an angle.

I cant really gove you an answer, but what I can give you is a way to a solution, that is you have to find the anglde that you relate to or peaks your interest. A good paper is one that people get drawn into because it reaches them ln some way.As for me WW11 to me, I think of the holocaust and the effect it had on the survivors, their families and those who stood by and did nothing until it was too late.
